FSC buying Setanta, and what happens next ...

Player Valuation: Pssssht
This is complete conjecture ... but hear me out.

We know that FSC is going HD very soon. What if they're buying Setanta USA to merge it with FSC, and have one channel for SD (standard def.) and one for HD. I've noticed that, for example, TBS SD and TBS HD have different lineups. Like, I'll find an episode of The Office on TBS SD and then go to try and watch it in HD and it will be something else, like Family Guy or something. They're both TBS, but it's still two different channels. All the same type of content, but just a diff lineup.

Maybe FSC is planning to do the same thing? More Prem matches on the HD channel, and lower leagues and FA cups on the SD channel.

Just a wild guess????

Any thoughts what this means for us football fans in the US?

LOL

HD = high definition
SD = standard definition
TBS = Turner Broadcasting Station
FSC = Fox Soccer Channel
USA = United States of America
FA = Football Association

I think that's all of 'em

Don't know if I would like it.

What I would like if either Setanta or FSC moves into the HD mode right away.

Espn's coverage Saturday morning is deffo eye candy.(y)

Dont know what the riels are on compitition are in the states mate. But Sky used to have a monopoly on Prem games over here untill the EU stepped in and ruled against their cartel. Subsequently we saw the advent of Setanta over here when they won the rights to show some Prem games. However the price they paid for this and other attractions wasnt sustainale and had to sell their Uk rights to ESPN however they still do operate in almost all the othe markets outside the UK.

Intretingly FSC which is owned by Murdock who also ownes SKY could buy Setanta America and have a monopoly on the footballing American market. Like i say i think that depends on the compition rules in boradcasting in the states.

I'm just worried that the rumors are true that Setanta will drop Prem matches. The only reason I get Setanta is to have the added choices of EPL matches that FSC doesn't carry. Basically, to have more of a chance to catch Everton on TV over here.

To put it bluntly, I'd say that 90% of the people who subscribe to Setanta here in the USA subscribe for the English Premier League matches (no offense to Rugby or Championship Football viewers)

If Setanta drops the Premier League here in the USA, they're essentially dead as everyone (including me) will cancel their subscription.

If FSC buys them out fine by me. Just as long as they keep the same amount of Premier League programming (roughly 8 out of the 10 matches between the two each week) the same.

Thats pretty much what happened them in UK mate. They couldnt get the subscrption fees to pay the leagues and had to default or sell their packages, which bascily meant they pulled out of the Uk market.

Their still pretty much everywhere else still in the world

Get stuck into the Heinkian Cup Rugby mate its ace! Ill send you over a Leinster shirt!

They also show Magners (sp?) League Rugby too.

Forget the Magners mate its like a warm up untill for the Heino Cup which is bascly the CL of Rugby.

We're current champions!

Ill adopt you as a Leinster fan mate.

Ok, I'll watch out for them and if I see them on, I'll watch for a bit.

Here here. I like Rugby but EPL rules the airways over here.

I just watched a Leinster match. They beat Leicester 19-16. There's another Leinster match against Glasgow on in a couple of hours too.
