Doesn’t Maguire normally play left side CB for United? They’ve got too many on their books at the moment anyway with Maguire Lindelof Smalling Jones Rojo Tuanzanbe all still at the club. Any centreback coming in will know it’s Maguire plus one other so will want guarantees that other player will be them. If they’re looking at Everton they’d just see two injury prone centrebacks in Holgate and Mina and a not very good Michael Keane.

No not at all, but by all accounts Medicals and personal terms agreed a while back, so he is either waiting for someone else or his agent is offering him around? Either way doesn't look good and yes I am fully aware of how long we usually take
 
Didn't United supposedly come in for Mina last year and Brands confirmed it was all nonsense in the end?

Gabriel seems like an Everton signing rather than a United one given they've just qualified for the CL.

That being said, i've never seen him play so I know nothing.
 
Maybe his agent has to exaggerate interest from other clubs.

We have to get used to this, even if 90% is fabricated.

"I'll sign for Everton...........only when I'm sure that (insert top 6 club here) definately aren't interested in me".

Had a medical pre-covid. Would require another one now I imagine, even if it just 'dotting the i's and crossing the t's.Things take time, especially when you're having to fight off United and other clubs. We may not even get him but if we do, then the club will have done well.

We haev to accept that COVID has create a very unusual circumstance for clubs and just while some clubs can still throw money about left right and centre. We may have to be a little more careful in being sure we can spend X amount on one player. After all we may not be able to shift some deadwood.

Yes this is true, trying to panic us into offering more money but we held our ground but it ran and ran, so very similar to this really!

Asked whether premiums were paid to agents to beat United to the central defender, Brands replied: “No, no, it was really simple behind the scenes. I put the offer in and Barcelona asked for a totally different amount that we would never have paid. Then they said: ‘OK, we will wait until the end of the market’. We never changed our offer. That was a bit of a gamble because everyone was writing about Man United [wanting Mina] and Barcelona used that, agents used that, everyone used it.


“I don’t know exactly if Man United were in. The player said constantly to me: ‘I want to go to Everton’. That was a great thing for us but you never know if Man United comes in and offers an extra £150,000 a week – every player would like to do that. I don’t know exactly the situation with Man United but of course Barcelona used it. They said to me: ‘Man Utd are coming in’. I don’t know if they did but I took a bit of a risk with that. That’s why we were also keen on back-ups, you never know, but after the weekend before the market closed I had a confident feeling about it.”
 
there does seem to be a lot of similarities with the Mina transfer. Hopefully it has the same conclusion but let’s not forget that it also dragged on to the very last day - let’s hope the similarities stop with that bit
