He did everything I had expected of him to be honest. He's come in for a bit of stick from me when in an England shirt, however today he showed just what a good premiership performer he has been for such a long time.

One word:

Immense.

Seriously...that block tackle on Eto'o is stuff that legends are made of! He was head and shoulders above the rest today. Composure on the ball, defensive positioning, the little professional fouls to stop Chelski's momentum...brilliant! It was simply a performance of a man that's worn a champion's medal round his neck.

First competitive game of the season and puts in a performance like that against a side like Chelsea. So composed on the ball, him and Gibson will be a perfect fit when he comes back into the side. On another note, did anyone see Martinez talking about Lukaku after the game? I know we are excited about seeing him in the side, but after hearing him talk about him in training, it really does whet the appetite to see him in a blue shirt.

The thing with Barry is, he's a leader. He was club captain at Villa, and I think he's captained City in the past.

It's great having players like that in your team and Martinez is spot on when he says he will help McCarthy and Barkley develop.

The fact he's a very good footballer too really helps, as sometimes when you get players playing the 'leader' role, if they're not very good there can be a bit of resentment (i.e. Phil Neville).

If Barry continues like this, we need to have a think about extending his stay. He can sign a pre-contract agreement from January onwards for next season, as he's available on a free.

Bourneblue likes this !He would be an excellent signing if indeed this is true.

Tbh before the game I thought he'd be an alright sighing better then what we have got but not amazing, after the match...I want his baby's.

Barry strikes me as one of those players that is seemingly unspectacular yet totally dependable. It takes fans that see him play every week to realise his true worth. I've got a feeling he's going to be a hero.

A season of him putting in that type of showing and we won't lose many this year, that's for sure. Very dependable player who knows what he's doing out there.
