I think he means we don't need two dm's, as in two people who think they have no responsibility at all to do anything in an attacking manner, assuming macarthy is fit

depends on the situation but yeah especially if no one is going to mark anyone. everyones slating barry today but mccarthy wasn't closing out at all, jogged out to the crosser on their first goal and no where to be seen on their 2nd (after barry was moved to the back four). Mccarthy is great for us but had a mare today

what Barry supposed to do is win us the ball and then pass it to a player near him who will think about the way of moving it forward. His partner in the midfield is usually McCarthy, who is also a DM and doesn't have the ability of passing the ball in a 'proactive manner', so they end up passing it around until the opposition takes the ball away from us.
Is it Barry's (or McCarthy's or Besic') fault that have to play alongside each other? They don't pick themselves mate.
Martinez said that he's looking for a creative player so if he can bring him and then play him with Barry then maybe Barry won't look 'useless' and 'done' to some fans because today he showed that he's still fine when it comes to doing the work he's supposed to be doing.

Of course not, in that scenario James should play and Barry should be dropped, at least if McCarthy can perform on his usual levels. I'm just saying that you should judge a DM like a DM and not like a playmaker. There is a job for every type of player.
