...contrary to others, I'm not bothered by this. It's an indication of how much Koeman rates him regardless of age. West Brom are apparently offering a two year contract and I assume Koeman is very keen to keep him.

Is there any need to keep him on til he's 38 at all though?

..I suppose the thinking is he can have 2 more seasons at West Brom or one with us so if we give him an extension he stays here. I'm sure he won't be starting much and his game time will be limited but he's still got something to offer.
In a cup game against lower league opposition if we play Kenny Dowell Davies and DCL he will have valuable experience and calming influences to offer
The manager obviously has a plan and knows where and when he will be used.
No one player is going to play every game this season and he is the natural alternative to Morgan

This has never happened since he joined the club

Barry is probably the best passer on the counter attack, but he will be a liability in most games. It all depends on the opposition for me

this is our problem, we keep resigning players until they basically can't walk

bad bad decision if true

I'm fine with that, he can still be a useful player to have, though he shouldn't be starting every week IMO
I kind of agree, but then he seems to me like one of those players who actually needs a run of games to stay sharp. He sometimes looks worse after a rest, as if he needs to work his way back up to speed.

I honestly think giving him a new contract would be stupid. If we still need him next year something has gone badly, badly wrong with this 'project' & if we don't still need him next year then he can sit out the contract he's already got for the rest of this season. Everyone always talks about what a good pro he is, so I assume he would appreciate the club's position and accept his lot rather than throwing his toys out of the pram.
