schweinsteiger???

In short, despite the media carrying on like United have the pulling power of old, they simply don't anymore, they give the illusion they do still by vastly overpaying in both fees and wages to an absurd degree, as its the only way they are getting players of the ilk they are trying to.

There situation mirrors the decline of Liverpool, only difference being is that the rs didn't have that kind of financial power to go utterly absurd on wages hence why there decline in proven quality players appeared much more steep.

If United miss out on the champions league this year, then I believe that adidas deal clause kicks in which will financially hit them massively hard, and all other sponsors and commercial partners will take note and the days of United paying 250-300k pw, and spending 150m in a window will be a distant memory.

They have gone [Poor language removed] or bust on mourinho and are in deep trouble should it go the way it appears to be.

God I hope this happens

Every year they fail to qualify now fr the CL their Adidas deal receives a 30% penalty on the 75m per season mate, so they lose 22.5m in sponsorship each time they fail to qualify - thats on top of the 40-50m that they lsoe each season for not getting the CL money which overall is a huge 60-75m loss they take each season on the revenue they basically budget for.

Throw on top of that managerial payoffs as well and missing CL is massive for them.

It's why if Jose fails to qualify then the financial cost of that will put huge pressure to sack him

Apart from us turning awesome again...this is what I have waited the longest to happen

Footy like everything else is Cyclical mate Barca won one league title in 16 years from 74-90 so only qualified for the EC once - almost impossible to believe thinking about it now, indeed only won the league twice in the years from 1960-1990

Went 5 years without a trophy between 1999-2004 as well

Liverpool havent won the league in 26 years and went from 85-2001 without playing in the top Eurpean competition. and the past 6 seasons have only played in it once

United went from 67-92 without winning a league title,

Arsenal went 17 years without a title until they won it in 89, theyve now gone another 12 without a league title.

Even real Madrid - one title in the past 8 seasons

Juve - 6 years in the 200's without a league win, Ac Milan - one league title in the past 12 seasons, Inter 16 years from 89-2005 without a title, and then only due to Juve being stripped of it during the Italian corruptin scandal all their league titles came during the period the other 'big clubs' where decimated with relegation, point deductions and fines etc, otherwise they likely would have gone from 89-now (27 years) without a league title.

Only Bayern out of the massive current clubs have had none stop success with no real break in it (and a lesser extent Real)

The CL format has masked the decline in many ways as it still allows clubs who ghave been failing domestically to appear in the 'top' competition and in most cases win it - when in the past they wouldn't hav eeven have qualified - Real - both CL wins, the rs and many many ohters have been wn by teams not the reigning domestic champions for example.

what goes around comes around and every dominant team eventually has a period where i falls away for a good period of time, and sometimes much much longer

Problem is mate, fabregas playing in cm in the type of formation we play would see us carved open, yeah with gana there you don't need a out and out def midfielder next to him, but you do need someone with at least decent defensive ability which fabregas never has it will have, didn't he absolutely stink the place out last season playing there as well

But, if we did sign Fabregas then we would adjust the style to suit his attacking attributes.

Right now, we're playing a system that suits the current needs of defence first and Gareth Barry is perfect for that.

If Fabregas joined us, hopefully it would be at a time when the defensive side of our game is much, much more stable and we could turn our attention to a more attacking mindset... and that would be tailor made for Fabregas, Barkley, Bolassie and co to really fire us on to greater things with Rom (and a second striker?) reaping the benefits of improved service from midfield.
