Video Games being the big bogeyman is a bit 1990’s imo

Don’t get me wrong, there is some incredible levels of toxicity within some sections of the gaming community, but all kinds of people from all walks of life play and enjoy games quite happily without causing any bother at all

Quite a lot of women play games these days for instance

The idea of young lads sitting in their bedrooms with the curtains drawn playing Call of Duty for 17 hours whilst eating and drinking only Doritos and Mountain Dew respectively kind of went out of fashion 15 years ago

Yes, some lads overdo it, but most of us are too busy to invest the 60+ hours you’re expected to with AAA and/or “live service” games these days so we play something for a couple of hours if we’re lucky and then real life intervenes

Kids have stuff like Minecraft, Roblox and Fortnite these days

Vidja Garms being THE DEVIL isn’t a very timeless reference

The problem with video games is the sedentary nature, hence Nintendo with the Wii. I don't see so many kids outdoors today messing around;s skateboarding, riding bikes building forts yada yada yada. It's the same argument as when I was a kid growing up with these. Video games are fine as far as I'm concerned. They're basically the card/board games of the past but those weren't having you sit on your a$$ 12 hours a day. Who needs to go camping when you can act like you're camping plus have zombies chasing you down. I was worried about bears and mountain lions when I was 10, not zombies.
 
Absolutely crazy that coming from the UK me playing a bit of MLB the show is why I can’t afford to buy a house, a Rolex or a Bentley and I’m not knighted.

God if only I worked really hard to become a professional baseball player despite living on the wrong continent. Or maybe if I played less COD I’d actually be in the SAS. Maybe if Charlie boy was my mentor I could’ve actually been a king instead of wasting my time on Age of Empires.

May as well give up all hope.
 

I assumed he was talking about lads spending their lives perpetually online these days, and that’s why he lumped gamers in with the incel king.

Probably just falls into the category of every “back in my day” arl fella.

These days, I honestly can't play games any more. I literally get motion sickness, and I have no idea why.

And I agree with the 90's remark... Remember when the first Quake came out?
Everyone had a fit! Didn't they blame the Columbine school shooting on it?

It's pretty tame by today's standards.

People do need hobbies. If you've got nothing sparking you some joy it's going to be a long struggle through life.

I've recently switched my attention to other things because the thing with them is you can easily end up spending more time than you wanted to and that can become detrimental.

It gets the dopamine cycle firing and for some lads it's the only one they can get. A lot of other hobbies end up out of reach because of costs. We got a videogame for our birthdays or Christmas and that was my parents sorted in between as they would tell us to get lost and go play what we had.

But whatever your view on video games, Sir Gareth is a cardigan vest wearing Tory soggy biscuit eater if I've ever seen one so he can get stuffed.

It’s laughable that games like the original Mortal Kombat and Night Trap caused such furore

Night Trap especially, as letting the women at the sleepover die gives you a game over, so you’re invested in preventing it, but folks who didn’t play it made out that it was a woman murdering simulator
