Gerard Deulofeu - Once a Blue, always a Blue

surely their is still a possibility gerard will go out on loan again? i'd have thought barca would re-assess the situation over the summer..

I initially felt he'd easily be on loan for 2 years but the forward depth in the team remains in flux and seems the club would rather have him develop at the club than elsewhere...Plus, I think one (Tello) or more from the current squad will not be here next season

But MD stating recently that he'd be back with the 1st team this summer pretty much ends any speculation of extending the loan

If there's genuinely no option of making the move permanent - send him back. The odd one or two as short term bodies Yes, but lets not get in the habit of long term developing footballers for other teams...

I disagree, if we can get this phenomenally talented player for another year then we definitely should.

Some permanent signings will only stay with a club for 2 years, so having a potential world star on the books for 2 years on loan is nothing to turn our noses up at.

I'm a bit mixed with this.

In theory you are spot on. We shouldn't be developing footballers for other teams. No way. We should be developing our own.

But you could say the same for Lukaku.

And it's really quite awesome having this kid here. We've missed him. No doubt about it.
And by having a player like him, and maybe more in the future around it will in turn develop our players too.

Why send him back when he could help us in our aim for a Champions League space, which in turn would give us the financial backing (maybe) to then be in a position to feel comfortable without him in the squad? Beggars can't be choosers; we don't have the money to send back quality players like him just because he isn't ours. Same as Lukaku - these are rare opportunities and we need to make the most of them and hope they can push us onto a level where we eventually can go forward and purchase players as good as them.

I'm ok with taking young raw talent just for a year. I know i'm saying this now and come the end of the season i'll be gutted when the Spaniard departs, but I would fully expect to get another young diamond in for next season. Why not develop an agreement with Barca for example, in which we take one of their B team each season.

It's obvious at no point in the near future will we be able to throw silly money about on players, for me this option being demonstrated with Deulofeu is exactly what we should be doing.

Obviously on the flip side, if Gerry was to help us get Champions League this season and then crucify us next season playing for Barca, this kind of deal would have backfired spectacularly for us. but until we are qualifying for the Champions League season in season out we shouldn't need to worry about that.

Anyway, just my opinion on the matter.

Spot on.

He's going back to Barcelona anyway, not as if we're developing a player for Liverpool.

I'm really looking forward to this kid being back.

Seeing Deulofeu or Mirallas on the bench gives me a lot of reassurance in how we can change games later on.
