Gerard Deulofeu - Once a Blue, always a Blue

I reckon he could be absolutely boss but almost chooses not to.

If he got a bit of pace up he could just push it past the defender and be gone within a millisecond. Instead he pisses about far too much. But he also beats players quite well from a standing start then goes back on himself unnecessarily. Brilliant cross at times.
Oh god, I know. Nothing is as annoying as that [Poor language removed] he pulls when he looks to be past his fullback and he almost pulls up to let the defender back in. Then he does that little stutter step to the defender - easy tackle and the attack is dead.

But when he gets it right...makes you stand up.

That will vanish the first few times a player goes right through him when he does it mate, and will actually benefit him long term when it does

Yeah, I see that.

I feel like Rom has a better mentality. Gerry has more potential to me though. I know loads of people call Lukaku lazy. I think he's tired and not ready to play all 90 for nearly every game in a season at the highest energy level. Most people aren't Leighton Baines. It's telling that his best spells were at the beginning of the season and immediately after returning from injury and that he tails off after a run of games. Kone would have made this season an entirely different affair.

Gerry seems more selfish, more arrogant...but at the same time, the kid is a magician going past defenders. His weaknesses are that he's a bit predictable and his head is down too often. Those are absolutely things that can come with age.

Rom could be one of the top 5 strikers in the world to me. Gerry could be one of the top 3 players.

I think Rom is more likely to hit his potential...but having a fully peaked Gerry would be a hell of a thing.

Good post mate, fully agree.

Agreed. For me, it's only a matter of time before Lukaku becomes one of the best strikers in the world. Deulofeu could go on to become an even better player but I but if we had the money now, and let's say they both cost exactly the same in fee and wages then I'd pick Lukaku every time. I just think Lukaku is the more likely of the two to reach his potential.

Agree with the above, Deulofeu will be worth either £45m or £4.5m in a couple of years (Denilson anyone?). Where in my opinion Lukaku will be definitely be a top striker.

I tend to have more patience with Gerry (as opposed to Rom) since it's his first season in English football. It's probably a world away from what he's used to in Barcelona in terms of football, language, culture, etc.
He has the ability to be world class IMO, but I think we will find out if it's an attitude thing next season. If he still does the same infuriating things that he's done this season, then it means that maybe he doesn't have the mentality for it.

What? Which game was this? I think you mean Sunderland but no, he was utter tosh and got lucky to 'assist' an own goal. Possibly our worst player on the pitch never mind man of the match.

Fair enough, mate - I was in Spain at the time. A couple of papers had him as MotM, though.

There's four. He's played 26 games.

I'd say aside from flashes of brilliance he has been awful. You've named four games he's played well in there, and he got us a draw with a great goal against Arsenal. That's about it.
MANY of those 26 he's played he's come on in the 90th minute+. I would venture in 3-5 of those he never even touched the ball.

He's infuriating to watch because you can see he could be one of the best in the world if he just learns a couple VERY simple things. One of the things that makes me pull my hair out is when he is in the box, ghosts past a defender but gets caught near the touchline then decides to shoot from an angle i dont think is even possible to score on straight on. Just pick yer head up!

Delighted if he stays for another year and so will Bill be as he won't have to spend any money again in the transfer market.

Infuriated me last week though, looked a bit of a show pony, can and will do better.

Is it possible your opinion of him has changed because it's the first time you've seen him in the flesh?

Not having a pop, but you see things differently at the game.

Maybe a little mate.

I mean he wasn't trying to be crap. That was obvious. He was really trying but nothing was coming off at all. Which made him probably look worse.

But he was no worse than Barkley in that respect.

He's a young man still, he's learning all the time and will continue to do so. Once his decision making get's to the required level he'll be getting double figure assists and goals in my opinion.

I'm willing to look beyond his flaws to due to his young age, if when he's 25 he's still not producing the final telling pass/shot most of the time the he probably never will be any better than what we are seeing now.

I Personally think the lad is going to be the dogs dinner.

It would've been good to see how he would've got on after a longish run in the team, say 5 starts in a row. I think a lot of his problems would be ironed out with more game time.
