Gerard Deulofeu - Once a Blue, always a Blue

Because what I'm noticing (except for last 2 matches that Hibbo started) was that we we've been getting exploited on the wings all year.

Agreed. There is far too much space behind our fullbacks.
We're getting paggered there every game this season.

Barca must have wanted him to go to a La Liga side, can't believe we would take Atsu over him.

Deulofeu has come out and said that Barca insisted he come back from Everton and didn't know about Sevilla beforehand.

Sounded pretty annoyed too.

Which I was glad at because I wasn't too sure if he was happy here by the end but it sounds like he was. Class act, on one hand I'm glad it's working out for him but in a way if he had of failed at Sevilla we could have bought him never mind loaned him.

Counterpoint: Coleman was named in the prem's best 11 playing with Gerard. Gerard bombed forward more than say McGeady does but last year we kind of needed his selfishness becuase we freqently got into pass pass pass pass pass ruts when he wasn't there. We especially needed him when Lukaku got injured. Coleman is quite a good defender now as well and him staying back and picking his spots may have been the reason why we were solid in defense as well. The difference is Deulofeu lost the ball trying something - which sometimes worked. McGeady just loses it.

The absence of the quality players ahead of the full-backs in most of the games so far this season is probably the main cause of that - it puts too much pressure on Baines and Coleman to do something which means they are further along the pitch than they might be. Lets not forget that the reason Baines and Coleman got so much attacking space last year was because teams had to also pay attention to Mirallas / Deulofeu / Pienaar (and Lukaku in the Arsenal game).

Also anyone who wouldnt want him back is nuts.

Honestly, if he does 'meh' this season, what do you think his realistic value would be? £8-10mil? £15mil?

Should definitely throw in a cheeky bid for him, just to gauge Barcelona's intent. Throw in a buy back clause of around €45mil.

It's also the big problem with playing the diamond and lead to one of Villa's best chances when McCarthy saved us.

Unfortunately and especially until Mirallas gets back we just have to live with it although I think we would be more secure with the legs and pace of Besic instead of Osman.

Hopefully he might play that against Lille.

Playing someone like Deulofeu just keeps the opposition thinking of defending rather than attacking and helps us be more balanced.

Great question. His buyout is €35m but that was a couple of seasons ago when he seems to have been held in higher regard.

Someone like Mirallas is worth 15-20 so I think Deulofeu with a decent buyout would be something similar.

Tbh - If Kev doesn't sign a new contract we should probably look to cash in and we could use that.

I also don't think it's that crazy an idea, at Barca you have a limited amount of chances and next pre-season will probably be his last but it will all depend on the season he has at Sevilla.

Deulofeu with yet another assist for Sevilla vs Elche today.

He now has 6 assists and 1 goal in 4 starts for Sevilla.

He seems to be turning it round although Elche are the equivalent of Leicester. I'm happy for him, would be a long shot anyway.

It will be interesting to see if he a) starts against the bigger teams or b) whenever there's no EL game. If he does then we'll know he's been elevated to 1st choice.
