Gerard Deulofeu - Once a Blue, always a Blue

A Spanish double swoop

Tottenham Hotspur and fought over the services of Barcelona youngster Gerard Deulofeu not so long ago and now he has become available again.

Three games in six years at the Spanish giants where places up front are always at a premium thanks to the presence of Lionel Messi, means he is discontent and asked for a move. Real Madrid have the same problem with Cristiano Ronaldo, both are not only the best but commercial goldmines.

He has been made available for £4.5 million (US$7.02m - AUS$9.07m - €6.23m) which interests his former loan homes Everton and UEFA Europa League winners Sevilla. Having tried to sin him before and in the market for young talent Tottenham are naturally interested along with West Ham United, they won't be the only sides though.

Tim Sherwood's recent comment that the technically better side usually wins is very true and Spanish players are brought up on technique, their coaching system has been light years ahead of ours and we are only just starting to catch up, however that will take time for us to see the benefits. In the final breed they are a different breed from us, we are still very much about power, the Spanish finesse.

I wrote recently about adding more Spanish youth to our academy (link below) and now we have the opportunity to negotiate for two players who have come through the Barcelona system, centre-back 24-year-old Marc Bartra and striker 23-year-old Deulofeu.

Tottenham would have to move fast as Everton are believed by the Liverpool Echo to have already agreed a fee for the winger.

Further Tottenham Reading
Spurs should be buying more Spanish youth
We need to arrest the decline with small improvements - April 2014

I have it from a good source that right now he's on Southport beach tucking into a cone of chips with his bird. He'll be at Goodison for 5pm tonight for his unveiling, just working on his tan first.

Does my head in that everyone is saying he'll sign netxt week, love like it's only Tuesday now that means we have another week of..this

If this deal comes off, which i'm pretty confident it will now, then I think it's an excellent signing. I'd have been happy spending £7m or £8m on him to boost our attacking threat but for the prices quoted we'll have done well out of it. If we do have to sell him back then we will have got a couple of extra good seasons out of him for a bit of profit. How can anyone complain about that? It's similar to Lukaku really. If we have to sell him for £35m (I reckon it will be more than that), we will have got some important goals out of him and made a profit.

I've criticised Martinez for mistakes last season and he may still make frustrating ones next season but he's done well with these loans. It's made us an attractive proposition for loan players and we've managed to sign them afterwards which loads of other fans and the media doubted. Even if these players stay for a few seasons they're going to help us and hopefully elevate us to be in or near the CL spots.

Obviously we need a few more additions as well.

That's a Spurs fan's opinion, not anything with substance.

Google anything and you'll find tenuous links for it.

We appear to be in the driving seat, and I agree balance is good, but not when you're activley searching for it on Google.
