Roberto Martinez says he is incredibly excited to once again have the opportunity to work with a ‘more mature’ Gerard Deulofeu.
Martinez believes the Spanish winger returns ‘home’ to Goodison Park as a better player than the one that entertained supporters with his flair and trickery during a loan spell two seasons ago.
Deulofeu has signed a three-year contract – with the option of an extra season – after Everton agreed a fee of €6million with Barcelona for his services.
“We are getting an even more mature player now than he was a couple of seasons ago and a player who considers Everton as home,” Martinez told evertonfc.com.
“This is why we are incredibly excited to have him back here on a permanent basis and to encourage him to grow, develop and mature his enormous talent.”
Deulofeu follows Tom Cleverley through the door at Goodison Park, both set to officially become Everton players at the start of July.
Martinez is pleased that the Club has secured two priority signings early in the transfer window – and he hopes to further reinforce his playing squad during the remainder of the summer.
“It was always our intention to work extremely hard behind the scenes to get some really good business done early on during the transfer window,” continued the Everton chief.
“Our objective was to secure Tom and Gerard as quickly as we could and I’m really pleased this is exactly what we’ve done.
“Having done this now, we will have more time over the remainder of the window to carry on strengthening our squad, which is already strong, and we will use this time ahead of us well.”
