I think getting the stuffing knocked out of him a bit at Sevilla was the best thing to ever happen to him

He matured at Seville, you could see during his limited playing time he had grown as a player since he first played here.

He is growing and learning how to use his talents, a massive player for us in the making, a true game winner.

As to G D, great start, there'll be pitfalls ahead (as with any player obviously, let alone a winger) but we look a hell of a sight better with him in.

I think in many ways he's been under the radar this summer, as his transfer came early and we've been through the emotional range of a teenage girl's first relationship and break-up these past few months - we've forgotten what a talent we have here.

That is, when he's on form: there's a particular attitude he can have toward opposition that instigates his best, which goes something like "how dare you stand on the same grass as me." Let's hope for more of the same.

Fully agree. Looking at his old 13/14 highlights reel on EFC site, his skill was fantastic but rarely passed or crossed when he should. If he fixes that and plays like he did last night then he will be fantastic. The money we spent on him has got to be bargain of the summer. No wonder the Barca chairman was complaining afterwards.

Mikey, he laid on plenty like that first time round......it is just way too often no one ever had the anticipation to get on the end of them.

There is a fine line between a player laying on an excellent "assist" and him looking wasteful if no one is on his wavelength.

One thing is abundantly clear.....to get the best out of Gerald we need to get bodies in the box when he is bearing down on the touchline.
