Gerard Deulofeu

Creativity and a willingness to "break the door down", so to speak. He just does not stop attacking the defense. There were goals he created during his loan season simply because he wore the opposition down over the course of the match. Lennon is the more tireless worker across the entire pitch, but in the final third his tenacity doesn't match Deulofeu's.

....perhaps it shouldn't be Deulofeu v Lennon but I describe it as perspiration v innovation. I'm not criticising Lennon but Deulofeu gives us something different.

If Martinez is all bout the future, and is willing to sacrifice the present, then this lad needs to play as often as possible..... He is the one player who could be a class above.

He did it with Barkley, why not him?

I don't think it is just a case of 'Lennon left Del right' for instance, the wingers usually end up swapping flanks 2 or 3 times a match anyway, I would definitely give them a go in the team together though

Wouldn't have Lennon on the left. He's very much an orthodox winger.

Deulofeu has the capability to cause problems cutting in - I'd try him on the left. I can actually see him being what Mirallas could have been if he wasn't a total melt in that position.

Only reason I'd be happy with Lennon on the left, is that he'd be less inclined to cross early, cos we never are set for it. We'd be very narrow though, and could get a thorough bumming down our left side on the counter. Maybe our Fullbacks shouldn't push on- Baines has the quality to send some balls over to chase by Rom/Del/Lennon. Then maybe 1-2 them if the opposition has really pushed high.

Del Boy has played a bit on the left in Spain.

RM needs to be imaginative as the team lacks belief. Playing with two wingers would be
a good start and it might stop Lukaku getting the blues.

Deulofeu apparently played there quite a bit in his early years at Barca. Seem to recall he was on the left away at S'ton in his first season here, unfortunately Clyne had him on toast.

He was much younger then and it was just one game and definitely worth experimenting with again - just as long as it isn't the derby ;)

Deulofeu should be used against poor/inexperienced defenders because he will attack them.

Lennon should be used against more experienced defenders because his sheer tenacity and work rate will wear them down.

You are correct in arguing they both bring something different to the side.

Lennon's performance coming in off the left against West Ham gave me a bit of hope that we could soon see him and Deulofeu in the same team.

Then I realised I'd forgot about Simon Davies, as is often the case when he's playing football right in front of me.

I agree, Lennon should stick to the right but I'd have Martinez experiment with playing Deulofeu in the middle behind Lukaku during the Summer.
