Germany goalkeeper Robert Enke dies at age 32 - USATODAY.com

FRANKFURT (AP) — Robert Enke, the Hannover and Germany goalkeeper, died Tuesday after being hit by a train, according to police. He was 32.
After Hannover president Martin Kind confirmed Enke's death, German police released a statement saying a man had been fatally injured after being hit by a train on Tuesday evening.

"The victim is apparently national team goalkeeper Robert Enke from Hannover 96," the statement said. "The first police indications are that it was a suicide."

Enke had been diagnosed with a bacterial stomach ailment several weeks ago but played last weekend for Hannover.

He had not been selected for Germany's friendlies against Chile on Saturday and Ivory Coast on Wednesday. But coach Joachim Loew had said Enke remained the leading candidate to be Germany's goalkeeper at next year's World Cup in South Africa.

Enke played eight matches for Germany.

Enke and his wife lost their 2-year-old daughter to a heart ailment in 2006.

Kind said Enke had been "unstable" recently, but that it had not been publicly noticed.

RIP.

Bloody hell.

I could never comprehend how bad it must be for someone to take their own life.

RIP

I guess he didn't get over the loss of his daughter..

Footballers are not immune from these things, and the money they earn doesn't make their life much easier..

RIP

i think some sort of chemical reaction must take place in your mind for you to commit suicide, something that makes you do it with no 2nd thoughts.
i've had mates that have done it, and if for 1 second they had thought about their kids that they have left behind, then that alone would stop them.

Yeah its a form of mental illness...but very difficult to detect...the closer they get to committing the act, the more organised they appear...putting their affairs in order and writing notes on why they are about to commit the act.Yet it doesn't seem to enter into their heads that they are about to hurt their loved ones beyond all comprehension...

Tragic...my heart goes out to his wife

Just pointing out that not all suicides are a result of mental illness...

Hope he's happy now sitting with his beautiful daughter. I feel so much for his wife, in 3 years she's lost her world.....

My god so sad...
