Gianluca Vialli

Used to really like listening to him the odd time he would do some punditry during an international tournament. You’d get more insight on the game from 30 seconds of listening to him than you’d get from ten seasons listening to the lot they have on Sky and BT now.

Wasn't he also part of Mancini 's team in some capacity when Italy won the Euros the other year?

If yes then I'm pleased he had this relatively recent success to enjoy

Shame the 1990 World Cup didn't go his way but overall he had a great career and seems was equally respected both on and off the pitch

RIP

Only football player I knew of that had a meal named after him ('pasta Vialli') brought that continental flair and living right off the pitch as professional athlete attitude became how to be successful and the lager and late nights got relegated. Memories a bit hazy but signed for Chelsea alongside Zola and I think them being pals meant settling in was easier. Player manager for Chelsea and the first Italian manager in the PL.
Quite the trailblazer.
Football has lost another gent. 58 is no age, it's desperately sad and I hope the league pays tribute to one of the stars that elevated it to the heights it enjoys now. Rest in peace Gian.

As a fanbase, we owe Gianluca Vialli our gratitude.

He was one of the great strikers of his era. His partnership with Roberto Mancini at Sampdoria in the late 1980s and early 1990s was one of the truly great ones. Pagliuca, Vierchowod, Lombardo, Katanec, Mancini, Vialli... The names roll off the tongue. A tremendous side, full of flair and character. A sad day.
Still my favourite Italian team as a result. I echo your sentiments.

This is really sad news. Luca was a great player, a fine manager and a gentleman. I'll never forget his words about Chelseas game against Bolton back in 1998.

It wouldn't be fair to Everton if i picked a weakened team. I think Chelsea had an upcoming european final to prepare for as well. That really did speak volumes about the mans character and integrity. May you rest in peace Luca.
