Just got back. That McCartney set was the best thing I've seen live. Also special mentions to Paul Heaton/Jacqui Abbott, Yard Act, First Aid Kit, Sports Team, PSB and HAIM. Outstanding weekend of music.
My lad has just texted me, on his way back, hasn't had a signal since Saturday, he wasn't impressed with McCartney but said he enjoyed Dianna Ross. Funny how different people see things ?. Said the whole thing was brilliant though ?

Kendrick Lamarr… can’t see anyone singing his songs 60 years from now.
Can anyone remember anything but one of Floyds either?
McCartney is class, anyone who doesn’t think so shouldn’t be trusted.
Is it true Noel got in a sulk because he wasn’t allowed to join Macca on stage?

A lot of people still listen to 80's hip-hop which is just under 40 years old, so you have just made that up really

Seemed to be a lot more mainstream to me this year. Shame as it was the alternative for many years.
Really liked listening in to some bands but in reality the whole thing is a environmental disaster and has become the very thing its fought against in the past.
Middle classes love buying a bit of Bohemia and people love to sell it!
Peace and love

I just think pop has got a lot better, it's now more diverse and so much talent there

Obv there are still the dinosaurs who still think popstars are like Steps or something, but it's not been like that for ages

I'd say this generation probably are the most talented mainstream musicians since the 80's, if not ever. Nearly all the pop acts had a band and write their own music

It's daft to think it's anything other than a mainstream festival. It has been since the 90's so everyone should be used to it by now

Wouldn't agree with that. I don't see/hear that much in the way of innovation these days. Everything has a saleable stamp on it, a marketable strategy, not done just for the hell of it, generally.

Well it depends who you are looking at I guess, people like Charli xcx and Rosalia pretty much do what they want. They do the production and mastering as well

You have Billie eilish and her brother make worldwide hits in a bedroom at their parents house

Would they have done that in the 80s, or is the technology creating their talent? The output is always subjective.

Technology will certainly be helping their talent, but I see embracing new technology is a good thing and could also be seen as daring.

I wouldn't say it's creating it as a whole, you need to have at least a base of creativity before you use the technology, which probably happened in the 80's too.

I've always been 'for' embracing technology, in the 80s it sped up the process, which was still musical, but somewhere along the road I feel the balance between technology/talent has tipped the way of technology.
There are no Marleys or Strummers out there, but plenty of whining and whingeing, in the 'pop' world. IMO of course.

Seems to be an endless loop of the same sound with them all singing on/over one another's efforts

Music has changed since Marley, Strummer etc. There will never be people like that again, although I'd argue a lot of today's punk rock et al is in a much worse state than 'pop'.

I have realised that we might not be talking about the same 'pop' here as what I'm talking about is probably slight left of mainstream pop and not really the chart toppers (which I agree a lot of it is bad)

Personally thought it was the most diverse Glastonbury line up we’ve ever seen and if there was nothing you could enjoy then maybe you’re not really into your music?

I enjoyed fender, sigrid, black midi, st Vincent, metronomy, and there’s still loads I haven’t watched.

Music moves on all the time. There really aren’t that many guitar acts that can claim they’re big enough to headline Glastonbury who already haven’t so why not get these great pop stars instead.

The main man Woody Harrelson and Cate Blanchett were there.
