Golf 2022....

….the Masters around the corner, always like to put on a little Masters/Grand National double.

Not really up on the golf and my two big National fancies have been hammered in the betting over the past month. Cantlay and Schaufelle with Enjoy Dallen.

Cantlay and Schaufelle not shown too much this year but defo have the games to win at Augusta. Unless they were picks for the National :)

I have a sneaky feeling Hovland might get his first Major but the field is so tightly packed at the top of the game then there are a lot of players who could be there or thereabouts.

I still hope that McIlroy will finally get his stuff together and really challenge at Augusta but this season has not shown that he will this year.

His putting is his problem (particularly in the Masters). Like Westwood, it's the 6 to 8 footers.
It’s why Westwood & Monty never won majors. You have to be a great, not just good, putter. Especially at Augusta.
I agree on Rory, but improve his putting a bit and he can definitely win more majors.

I like Hovlands style, but he got big mistakes in him.
Don’t usually get away with that at Augusta.

Two form horses on tour this season, and at Augusta, are Cameron Smith and Corey Conners. Smith a little short at 16s in my book and Conners a decent outsider at 50s at Skybet Ew 11 places.

On Hovland I backed him with bet365 the other week to win a Major this year at the boosted odds @ 15/2. Decent bet that and I really fancy him for the US PGA which is in Oklahoma where he has a home and on a course he knows well. Will be going in on him again when that event comes round. You heard it here first ?

I dont know why, but the idea that Tiger might play this week just makes me pretty excited. Any tournament with Tiger is automatically 10 times bigger.
Going to be interesting to see how Tiger copes with walking the hills and slopes of Augusta, apparently it’s much hillier than it appears on the telly! Amazing to see him back on the course after effectively having his leg rebuilt after that crash!
Sadly can’t see a Brit wining this year (again!).
Have had a little ew bet on Cameron Smith and Colin Morikawa, Coral are paying out on top 10!

This is Cameron Smith's week (hopefully)

Brilliant watching him win the TPC with his mum and sister there. Quality golfer and one who I could see being in with a great shout.

I'd say Hovland has the game to go and win his first major but his putting hasn't been fantastic the last couple of tournaments on the final day.

Scheffler will fancy his chances with the way he's performing and he just hasn't looked like missing anything lately.

But those Augusta Greens can make even the most seasoned professionals look foolish.

Bigger but sometimes extremely annoying. I want to see all golfers not just one, it is certainly not Tiger's fault, he just wants to play golf.

I remember Butch Harmon after the win at the Tour Championship, he said 'Tiger is back, Golf is back'. I know it is a throwaway soundbite in an emotional moment but I instantly thought, no, golf has always been there and I have always enjoyed watching it with or without one player.

I am a McIlroy fan but it is sometimes the same with him, showing them on the range for a seemingly very long time, when we could actually be watching some golf on the course. I just really hope the coverage is good and fair and not all about one man, otherwise it may ruin what should be a great tournament. So many players have the game, are in form or both at the moment.

I naively tried to follow Tiger around at Hoylake in 2006 on the Sunday and I gave up after one hole as everyone else had the exact same idea.

I can imagine it gets a bit annoying.

I'm a big Rory fan too, but even Rory is a huge Tiger fan. Whether people like it or not, Tiger is almost as big as the game himself. I'm just excited to watch him play again, because all top sport needs the top players. The masters without Tiger is like the Crucible without Ronnie, or Wimbledon without Federer. It doesn't feel right.

Fingers crossed he's good to go.
