As a socialist Ilm an internationalist. But it's undeniable that national sporting rivalries are compelling...

sue me.
I'm sorry what? You're a socialist, maybe you're an internationalist, and you like human beings profiting from the misery of others.

I would say that you have succeeded in your goal of making my head explode, except I am still here. At best you are arguing Emerson's claim that consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds, but I doubt you're aware of both the quote and its context.

Never change, sir. Never change.

I think your head must have exploded before claiming that first bit.

In what way shape or form do I "like humans profiting from the misery of others"...

You're the one who demanded that pure international competitions be based on nation-state boundaries. If you don't know the history of how those came to be, that's on you and not me.

You can slither through that one, but at that point you're my ex. Cede the point or lose the respect you have earned over the years, your call.

Ignore him, unlike everyone else in here he’s just trying to make the thread about him and not the golf!

lol lol lol

I demanded nothing of the kind. I stated it's more authentic. Ha Ha. FFS!

Its sport. <shakes head>

Anyway, enjoy your golf.

Ah, there are no implied demands in 'authenticity'. I rarely agree with the feminists, but they would have an absolute field day with that one, and they would be right.

Fair, but after a lifetime of not fighting that one I am more or less compelled to point out the hypocrisy. Normally, he is the one pointing it out. I do not like pointing out his, but some things must be done.

It's unauthentic to me.

A hotch potch of different nations but with a bias toward GB players versus a group of yank mercenaries.
I enjoy the Ryder Cup but I see where you’re coming from. I liked it better when the differences between the European and American were more distinct.
It seems like these days most of the Europeans played college golf in the States, live in the States, play on the PGA tour, have American spouses, etc.
I understand the reasons behind all of this but to me it seems more of a sameness than in the past.

Now this is an informed critique.
