Golf 2025 Season…….

I think it was ominous how Scheffler finished in the last event, out of nowhere he nearly got in a playoff with Lee. The weight of expectation is the biggest hurdle Rory has to overcome and sadly can’t see that changing this week, unless he has a great week on the greens. My outsider is Justin Thomas, showing signs of his returning to the top of his game. If he is, his game is well suited to Augusta.
While these are all great points, from a pure game standpoint this is the best Rory has ever looked with short irons in his career. He's learned how to golf and not just strike balls, dialing in his yardages from 150 and in. Rory may not win at Augusta this week, but I do think he's finally going to win another major this season and he's a good value vs the book at getting 2 this season

Yeah and there is some precedent for a lefty in the bottom 10th of distance on the PGA Tour winning at Augusta. Granted that was before Augusta continued lengthening, but still those odds are way too long for him
It’s still not a course you have to blast it around to be in contention, despite what Bryson may say. With golf I hate betting favorites. There’s too many good players and with Scheffler not on his dominant run anymore it’s fun to take the long shots. $5 on harman, Theegala, McCarthy, and young for me this week. Young has been poor recently but at 200-1 it’s a fun one to throw in to see if he can turn it around this week.

To that point, while length is important, one could argue that hitting specific spots on greens are what allow you to make birdies at Augusta more than most places. Certainly length will get these guys birdies on the par 5s, all of which are generally reachable. But these guys need short wedges and other short game wizardry to score there. Harmon certainly worth a punt

He's certainly one of the names I have in mind as a possible winner. Coming into form at the right time, but considering all the talk around him is that he's been off the boil this year, which compared his standards of last year, he is, his worst finish so far in terms of placings is T25. He'll be there or thereabouts come Sunday, I'm sure.

Agree with you on Rory and I'll be prepared to go into the vaults and possibly look a right muppet come Sunday evening, but I don't think he'll ever win a green jacket, for the reason you give. JT is a good shout, another I'd make a case for winning it. I've got a sneaky feeling on RS Morikawa, he's had good finishes on the leaderboard this year and like JT, showing signs of his game coming back to his best and has had a top 10 and 2 top 5s in the last 3 Masters.
Good shout fella. Morikawa is ranked number 1 tee to green on the pga tour ahead of second placed McIlroy.

It’s ironic his short irons have been on the money, but his driving has been poor by his standards of late.

This is why he's won twice already this season.

Unless you're in the woods, driving accuracy isn't as important if you're super long like it was 30 years ago. Bomb and gash, just make sure you are dialed in with your irons

You can’t attack the pins at Augusta tucked away behind bunkers or on little ledges from off the fairway. Thankfully there isn’t much rough at Augusta but there a lot of pine needles should you be wayward off the tee.

True - you can't make birdies at Augusta unless you're in the fairway.

But you can certainly make pars. It's different than the Open or US Open where the rough/wayward shots can be very penal

Part of the reason why I fancy him, along with his record at Augusta. I haven’t paid too much attention to him recently, bar the finishes, but if he’s still got the putting style of dribbling the ball up to the hole and dropping in through the front door, that’ll do him in good stead on Augusta’s greens, where you do need to be a steady hand.

….Shane Lowry 40-1; Tommy Fleetwood 33-1 and Min Woo Lee 50-1 are my 3 e/w selections at small odds.
Particularly like the odds for Min Woo Lee. Worry about Tommy. His talent deserves a major, but he struggles to put it together over 4 rounds. Lowry could well be in the mix with his great short game, in particular if it gets windy.
