Depends, not always. If you're building strength and bulk then yes 8-10 would be sound. I'm shaping so I'm up to 12 reps on my main exercises. I supplement it with some lower weight and more rep exercises but meant as a general rule.
I could have a spotter and bench silly weights but I'm not controlling the exercise naturally and putting strain on other supporting muscles unnessarily. If you can do exercises where you isolate the muscle then its obviously better.
Sound. I think for now I'll just keep as I am and then I'll up the reps if/when I get to that stage.
