I must say, I'd love to be able to do 144km in 3 hours

Yeah, me too. I meant more like 4 hours ...I train with a friend of mine that I grew up with. He's done 5 Iron Mans, so he's a machine. I try and keep pace with him for as long as possible, which is good for my training. The only bummer about living where I do in Florida is that there's isn't much elevation change.

No, I guessed you lived in a pretty flat area as even 4 hours is pretty rapid. Ironman's are very impressive. If I could be bothered to get back into swimming and do any kind of running, this kind of event looks fantastic

Cheers bruv, was really happy with it and will try to use 7/8km as my standard now if that wasn't just a flukey one off last night in not being tired after it.

Yeah it's surprisingly not that difficult to cut out chocolate, crisps etc once you've done it for a week or so... well in!

Whilst it is easy to give it up, its just as easy to start it again.

When i started my diet last year, around week 6 or 7 i started to get the urge to snack here and there. I didn't but i could of easily went back to it, more out of boredom. Boredom of eating healthy, if there is such a thing. The reason i say boredom of eating healthy is because it was all a mental game. Id got used to eating like crap for so long it became ' normal '. It is very much a mental game and a challenge to eliminate your bad habits and to teach yourself the good.

I battled through this of course but you do ' hit a wall ' and if youre not on top of it, you could easily forget and the bad habits have returned. Absolutely no point in eating like turd and then doing a work out.

Apparently one hour of football burns more calories than one hour of swimming.

Not having that one bit, the experts are wrong. I can ply an hour of football easily but would probably drown after 10 minutes.

Not if you're Leon Osman it doesn't. I'd be surprised if he burns 100 calories a game.

Yes mate - know what you mean! I absolutely love crisps, chocolate, beef, wine, peanuts... () This month I've had a grand total of zero chocolate, three pints and no crisps or peanuts, haha. No wine.

But I love all of that and it's not nice having to go without.

I've got a block of cheese in the fridge like and I treat myself to the odd nibble, hehe.

These things are often worth taking with a pinch of salt. I can do a decent session on the bike and burn 1,000 calories an hour or I can pootle and do a few hundred. Always better to underestimate how much you burn and overestimate how much you eat.

Starting to count calories is an eye opener when you realise which foods are full of them.

And aye 3500 calories a pound. But everyone is different on how many calories they are allowed daily dependent on size and lifestyle so 2000 for a lad isn't always standard.

It's the most important thing for managing your weight, hands down.

I'm on about 5000 a day right now. I'm bulking but because of the amount of cardio I do, gotta eat even more than the usual 3-3.5k.

Buy a treadmill mate, you stay dry and you can listen to tunes/watch TV. Do high intensity training which gets you in great shape but saves you hours, as you'll only have to do about half hour per session.

I haven't got the money or space really tbh mate. Don't think my housemates would be too pleased with me running about on a treadmill in the loft either, ha!

Take up cycling. You actually get to go to various places, and much more varied terrain than you typically get on a run. Of course I'm bias and all, but still, it's an awful lot of fun.

Hmmm, my dad has a 10 speed road bike which I could use but it's back at my parent's house.

go swimming BLF, because then you don't need a bike !

Could do. The gym I go to have a 50m and a 25m pool, but it's soooooo boring! Ha. Running bores me too, but then I'm only 10 minutes from Sefton Park which is decent.

Just got back from the gym now actually. Really need to start doing more legs now, I've seen girls with bigger thighs than me!

Started off hard, yeah. You practically force yourself to eat. It gets easier but there are still times where you just think "nah, not feeling good."

I swim about 18 hours a week and lift for about 4.
