Ok guys time for my NXT Echo Arena Review
First things first, Dasha Fuentes came out before the show kicked off and as the host she met a few fans and interviewed them. I was very impressed with her, she is very likeable and sounds good on the mic and has confidence on the mic. She is also very pretty. She was really good at hosting and dare I say it should really be on the main show.
The crowd was decent but not spectacular, i would give them a 6/7 out of 10 overall. Saw loads of people wearing Balor and Nakamura tees, even a few grown adults in bayley shirts.
The first match was Chester's very own Hugo Knox vs. Wesley Blake - First impressions of seeing Hugo in the ring were that he fits the typical WWE mould, the type of physique that Vince loves his wrestlers to have. Vince either likes 7ft giants or muscly ripped guys like Knox. He's basically displaced Apollo Crews as the guy with the physique in NXT (although Sabattelli would give him a run for his money if he ever makes it)
Highlights of this match were chants of "you're just a sh...t robbie savage" at Blake and some people tried to get Knoxy Baby chants going but they didn't quite take off (Knox has Knoxy on the back of his pants for some reason). It was no suprise to see the sort of local talent come out with the win with a split legged moonsault. The finisher is quite impressive although Knox botched the first attempt which drew a few laughs.
Knox is getting a massive push at the moment, he's apparently won all his house shows, heard he beat Tye Dillinger the night before in Dublin so looks like WWE are trying to give a push to be a mainstay on NXT tv and maybe eventually onto the main roster at some point, not bad for a goalie from port vale.
Sadly for Blake he now has the role of a jobber in NXT it appears, such a rapid demise from being a tag team champ not that long ago.
The second match of the night was American Alpha (Chad Gable and Jason Jordan) vs. Alexander Wolfe and Sawyer Fulton - Gable and Jordan got a great crowd reaction and there were plenty of chants in this encounter with lots of Gable Gable give us a wave and Jordan Jordan give us a wave which they duly obliged. Plenty of Gable and Jordan chants throughout the match. Their opponents looked like they had just come out of a Mad Max movie audition. The match ended with both Gable and Jordan making their opponents tap out with ankle locks and then the Revival came out to gloat about how they are the champions and tried to tease Gable and Jordan and the crowd into a rematch. As per usual when it comes to heels they were just trying to whip the crowd into a frenzy but said that Gable and Jordan don't deserve the opportunity and walked away. They then tried to attack Gable and Jordan whilst their backs were turned but their plan failed and one of the members ended up getting beaten up. I read that they apparently had the exact same match with the Revival coming out as well at the dublin show the night before so not really creative from NXT there.
The third match of the night was Bobby Roode vs. No Way Jose - again the crowd was good for this fight with plenty of cheers for Roode when he came out and a few people shouting "beer" randomly. No Way Jose had a good reception as well, lots of people singing his name to his tune. No one really dominated this match and it was a bit corny when they stopped the match half way through and played No Way Jose's music and Bobby Roode then started dancing with No Way Jose - of course Roode then reverted back to heel type and hit Jose when his back was turned. Roode ended up eventually winning the match but im suprised that No Way Jose is being given such big name opponents to fight against given he's more of a comedy fighter, apparently he beat austin aries at dublin the night before.
The fourth match of the night was a women's tag team match between Peyton Royce and Nikki Glencross vs. Carmella and Bayley - Nikki came out wearing what looked like the Scotland flag on her garments, I also recognised her from somewhere, i think she was in a reality show for british wrestlers who wanted to make it into the WWE that i saw. Peyton Royce looked fine - i actually quite like her and hope she gets a push in NXT and becomes of the big female stars on the NXT roster. At the moment she is obviously jobbing to every female wrestler but I think she has talent and ability to make it big. Bayley and Carmella obviously got massive crowd reactions with Bayley getting many renditions of Happy Birthday given that it was her birthday today. I was very impressed at the fact that she spent a lot of time with the crowd giving lots of kids hugs and interacting with the audience, i can see why she is such a huge star in NXT. I expected her to maybe hug 1 or 2 kids, give a few high fives in the crowd then run off. Carmella came out and did her thing on the mic and tried to get the crowd going by asking them to make some noise. The fight itself was pretty uneventful, I went out to grab a beer during the fight and pretty sure I walked in to chants of stand up if you love NXT or something. Bayley finished the match off with a Belly to Bayley and the crowd were happy with the outcome.
The fifth match of the night was Tye Dillinger vs. Andrade "Cien" Almas - very impressed with Tye Dillinger's skills on the mic, he should be on the main roster imo. He's been stuck in NXT for too long and for some reason hasn't been given the push he deserves. I read that he apparently lost to Hugo Knox in Dublin and he also lost to Almas tonight so it appears that he is jobbing at the moment which is ridiculous for someone who has a gimmick of "perfect 10". If he keeps losing that gimmick will just become embarassing. Best moment was when Dillinger came out and revealed he was wearing a Man Utd shirt underneath. He got a massive reaction afterwards, he's such a great heel but the crowd also love his gimmick. Dillinger's acting was so funny when the Man Utd shirt almost got stomped on, he was pleading with Almas not to do it, in the end Dillinger ended up stomping on his own shirt after being forced by Almas which was funny. Almas showed off some pretty decent technique and skills and he looks like a great talent. I can't remember how this finished but Almas won in the end probably with a fancy flip or something.
The sixth match of the night was a suprise title match for the Women's Championship Belt and it was a three-way between Asuka vs. Nia Jaxx vs. Alexa Bliss - unfortunately for a title fight this was a bit of a drip match for the crowd, no one got really excited about it. There were chants of "10" for Bliss when she entered the ring because she is fit and because it was just after the Tye Dillinger fight. Nia Jaxx dominated at the start and watching Bliss try and get involved was funny as Nia Jaxx just swatted her away on numerous occassions. When Asuka fought back, Alexa Bliss used this opportunity to geg in and showed off her athleticism and gymnastic ability with a few flips. The match came to an end when Nia Jaxx got thrown out of the ring and Asuka made Bliss tap out to retain her championship belt. Jaxx was obviously annoyed as she couldn't do anything about it and the fact she didn't lose the match but can't win the title because of Bliss tapping out. The crowd were obviously pleased and happy that Asuka won and retained though. Jaxx looked good i thought, very dominant which is her gimmick being a big woman. I can see her winning the title in the future, i just dont think her time is now.
The seventh and final match of the night was a tag team match between Finn Balor and Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Austin Aries and Samoa Joe - everyone pretty much got massive reactions in this match, nakamura's entrance was a joy to behold as usual. Aries came out wearing bandages around his midriff but moved around the ring like he was absolutely fine. I don't think he even reacted to have a rib injury at all which was a bit bemusing, he was doing crossovers without reacting afterwards. Again there were plenty of chants asking the wrestles to wave, Balor reacted and waved, Nakamura probably didn't understand a single word being chanted so just stood there like a plum not waving, Aries didn't wave but mainly due to the fact he was on the ground when the chants started going for him and Samoa Joe reacted with a middle finger causing the crowd to chant "Joe's a Scouser" which was funny. The match ended with Samoa Joe flung out of the ring and Nakamura giving Aries the Kinsasha, Nakamura then left the ring and held back Joe whilst Balor gave Aries the coup de grace and finished the match off with the pinfall.
Balor then took the mic and thanked the crowd, said it was great to be back in the UK and then gave a great speech in honor of Robbie Brookside saying that he is responsible for so many of the NXT talents that we have watched tonight and saying how great a man he is.
Overall I was very impressed with the whole event. The 3 hours flew and during the break I saw that Wrestlemania 32 was being advertised and will be in Florida next year. I'd love to go and see that but it also made me thing of the recent tragedies that have happened there recently. I was hoping that maybe there would be a suprise appearance from an NXT alumni like Baron Corbin who appeared at Download Festival but alas it was not to be. I thought maybe even a british talent like Neville might show his face given that he is injured at the moment and not travelling with WWE ah well.
This has definitely given me the thirst for more and if there are any more future WWE or NXT shows at the echo arena, i will definitely be there.
