GOT Wrestle Fest Fan Thread

As if Kevin Steen, El Generico, Tyler Black, Claudio Castagnoli, AJ Styles and Jon Moxley are in WWE and are featured players though

Incredible stuff!

WWE really has changed in a lot of ways. None of them, aside from perhaps Claudio, would have gotten so much as a look in 10 years ago

Not only that, but CM Punk and Bryan Freaking Danielson were both WWE Champion's!

And you've got Austin Aries, Samoa Joe, Eric Young, Bobby Roode and SHINSUKE down in NXT waiting for call ups to the main roster

I struggle to comprehend this stuff sometimes. I'm just pleased that these days, if you're talented enough, you will actually get some semblance of a chance in the big leagues, even if it doesn't work out for you in the end

I mean, a guy with AJ's size and ring style getting a win, however tainted, over the Golden Goose like that on Pay Per View? That sort of thing would never had happened back in 2006. And not only has AJ pinned Cena, but so have Danielson, Punk, Black and Steen on differing occasions

It's outrageous to me, in a good way

Literally the only names from the golden indy era of the early to late 00's that are yet to get a shot in WWE, that I can think of, are Roderick Strong, Doug Williams and Chris Daniels

I can't think of any other previous generation when so many big indy names got a chance in the WWF/E or WCW like this

From the early 90's scene you've really only got Al Snow, and maybe 1-2-3 Kid

From the late 90's you've got a better return with Hardyz, Dudleyz, E & C, Rhyno and Val Venis making it, but also guys like Mike Modest, Ace Darling, Reckless Youth, Steve Corino, Donnovan Morgan, David Young, Vic Grimes and others who never got a real chance in the big leagues, despite being big names on the indy circuit (Unless you count TNA, which any sane person wouldn't)

So yeah, we live in a different world these days, where work rate means more than it ever has. You still need something else to you, be it a look (Cesaro), good promo skills (Steen) or some extra intangible (Zayn), but it's been easier than ever to get into WWE so long as you can deliver a great match

Long may it continue!

I actually mentioned Seth Rollins in the post above too ^^ He's the "star" of the three; the new CM Punk basically.

Ambrose will be a smash hit. Very unique, and an indication that perhaps WWE are moving away from the PG era a bit as he's certainly not dull.

Roman Reigns is not going to pull up too many trees
, strange inclusion for a call up to the main roster. Came across as pretty bog standard.

I'm going to stop saying things for a while.

He is bog standard though.

His issue for all that is wrong with the WWE is the cena effect. He can kick out of Styles finisher, so can cena. The superman persona is dead in terms of the fans now and they don't want hulk hogan recreated every generation.

Think that is what they don't see, the most successful time they have ever had and not a single person was unbeatable on the roster. Now creating cena is fine for the long run as he can be used to put people over every now and again and it would be a boost to said up comer. But having the current top face in the company booed out the building for doing the exact same thing?

the perspective here is that Reigns has many years ahead of him and already he has been booked as a unbeatable star early on. Cena had a fair few years where he did lose matches and titles cleanly by bigger people, he, in some respects earned his spot up there when the fans all got behind him.

Didn't think this ppv was all that, really. Pretty poor tbh.

Had way bigger expectations for the AJ vs Cena match, felt nothing really happened in it. The ending was very anticlimatic as well. Sure it was a decent match, but in no means the dream match they were talking about before hand. 2/5.

This MITB match is probably the worst match with this stipulation I've ever seen. The pre-match promo with Del Rio, Y2J and Owens was far more entertaining. 2/5

Good, though very predictable, ending to the main event with Ambrose cashing in. Just didn't expect Reigns so lose cleanly to Rollins. Though he may have cheated earlier in the match, I skipped to the ending.

The tag team match that opened the show was pretty enjoyalbe, though. Really like all these teams, with the exception of the Vaudevillains. Enjoying the tag team division more than I've done in years atm. 3/5

From the NXT Take Over Review

5. Asuka beat Nia Jax in 9:11 to retain the women’s title.
Some cool early stuff. Jax is obviously not of the caliber of the women on the main roster yet, but she’s unique and has a great look, even if it’s non-traditional. Her first run has to be as a heel, but her real potential in years down the line as a babyface. I’m certain of that, but they may not be able to see that because it’s unconventional thought, but with WWE appealing more to a women’s audience, there is an appeal to Jax as a face with the right kind of a heel if she improves greatly over the years. Here, Asuka did what she could. She used the octopus submission but Jax powered out. Asuka used a triangle and Jax power bombed her way ut. The one thing with Jax’s size is that fans accept Asuka’s selling, which they don’t in other matches even though they force it on the fans. Jax powered out of an armbar, and even got out of the Asuka lock, but Asuka won with a high kick, and spin kick and a running kick. **3/4

I struggle to see a woman that big being a babyface when all the other women are so small. I guess Big Show manages to pull it off in the men's division. I just wonder where Dave sees this babyface potential for Nia? (Outside of maybe a Heel says she's fat and she crusades for big women everywhere)

He's toss, mate.
nah i think he is one of the few wrestlers they have who deserve a title run. If he isn't very good ala swagger or del rio then i imagine they won't have him hold it long.

but to be fair he has been their go to guy to carry some main events for a good while and hasn't come away looking worse for it. Bar his last ppv, that match was terrible.

He makes me gag though.

I just don't get him.
