Out with the old and in with new. A slogan for the new year in more ways than one.
I hope RM bears it in mind when looking at future Everton selections.

Against Newcastle I thought Barry was absolutely atrocious. Too slow, too ponderous. Everytime he got the ball I was afraid of what was going to happen next.
Unfortunately , I have to admit McGeady is a squad filler, no more. He has no impact on a game for long stretches at a time .Not enough real pace and no real determination. Too many flicks, too much possession given away.
Distin has finally been caught by father time. But, I did think Alcaraz played quite well.
Since when has Smuel Eto'o been a midfielder, and not a great one. Play him as a striker or
let him on the bench.

The green shots of recovery.
Coleman playing much better than recently, Garbutt a genuine premiership class full back, Baines
imo comfortable in midfield in his first game in that role.
Barkley bringing life into the team with his introduction, constantly trying to make things happen,
ignore his mistake for the goal , these things happen.
Kone played well and Mirallas I think is more striker than winger.
Unlike many others I thought Robles did well enough in his first premiership start to earn the right
to make that position his own. I don't think any of the goals were his fault and there could easily have been at least two or three more if not for him.

Truly I don't think Garbutt is a genuine premiership left back. Yet. He looked completely overawed yesterday in my opinion, a reflection of the sheer disorganisation we suffered from. I know we wanted changes yesterday but it was as if RM just decided to do them all at once in desperation. I'm still as annoyed this morning as last night!

He looked really good going forward, just a little exposed defensively, but he never really had anyone helping him out

What did you expect after losing at home to Stoke?

I thought Kone did well too and deserves to start. I'm not sure about Ross, like Rom he needs to try harder. If McCarthy is fit I would play Besic and McCarthy. If not then I would partner Baines with Besic.

Agree with that, and I do think he'll be a great left back in years to come. I was surprised he didn't get the cover what with Baines being on the field too. Just shows the lack of organisation there was I guess!

That's because he had Eto'o and Barry covering him with Baines as the attacking midfielder.

Both Eto'o and Barry are two or our biggest problems. Eto'o is a sticker and nothing more while Barry looks well off the pace.

Before anyone says how crazy a decision is that.

We've played Eto'o, Naismith, Barkley and Kev there and none have looked up to it. It reeks of desperation but Baines' close control and passing is really good plus he did put through Kev with a lovely through ball. Something none of those players have managed all season.

He's trying to find a winning formulae but at the moment nothing is working.

I think Andy Gray is right. We need to get back to being hard to beat but with the boo boys expecting us to beat everyone by 7 goals its difficult.

The good thing is that Martinez never had this level of scrutiny at Wigan - I mean they lost 9 games in a row more than once! It helps the the media is full of liverpool fans which adds an extra level to the (somewhat deservedd criticism)

This means that he'll show more urgency and I'm sure he'll come around.

Robles did well, only the three goals conceded LOL

Has he kept a clean sheet for us yet?

Like a scarecrow having a handy shandy, you are clutching at straws here

There is indeed a perverse logic that a fully RS infiltrated media will put additional scrutiny/pressure on El Bob to turn things around... hopefully, he won't succumb to the ways of their dark side and collapse under said scrutiny/pressure.

Unreal that you think Baines played well in midfield.

He chased shadows for about 70 minutes and was then moved back to left back where he looked like the player we know.

that pass to mirallas was alright, i was very confused as to where he was playing tho...

Negatives from yesterday: Barry is terrible I mean did he do anything right yesterday? Distin is too old now, Eto'o is NOT a winger and its irritating watching him being palyed out of position time and time again. Joel is a bad goal keeper, has he ever done anything good whilst in goal for us?
Positives: Garbutt is looking good for the future which may have to be sooner than later the way we are at the minute. Kone impressed and I think deserves to start against Hull.
