Green shoots of recovery.

There is indeed a perverse logic that a fully RS infiltrated media will put additional scrutiny/pressure on El Bob to turn things around... hopefully, he won't succumb to the ways of their dark side and collapse under said scrutiny/pressure.

Martinez's Wigan team had something like 23 points in March 2012. They then went and beat Liverpool, newcastle 4-0 (then competing for the top 4) and Arsenal away, Utd at home amongst other wins against relegation contenders Blackburn and Wolves.

The season before they were 2-0 down against West Ham and needed to win to not be relegated - they won 3-2 and beat Stoke in the final match

Even the season they went down I think they had almost every defensive player injured and had they held onto their Swansea win would have stayed up - they would have definitely stayed up if not for the cup IMO

Basically what I'm trying to see Martinez has come out again and again against pressure that would have cracked lesser managers

That's because he had Eto'o and Barry covering him with Baines as the attacking midfielder.

The formation was not quite like that yesterday. In the central areas instead of 2 sitting and 1 advanced, it was 1 sitting and two further forward. Baines was left and advanced of Barry and McCarthy/Barkley right and advanced of Barry. Baines found himself in the left back position quite often I thought.

4-1-4-1 defending, 4-3-3 attacking.

Whatever system we play we are short of natural wide players. At the moment, even if everyone is fit, it would be Mirallas and who else?

Out with the old and in with new. A slogan for the new year in more ways than one.
I hope RM bears it in mind when looking at future Everton selections.

Against Newcastle I thought Barry was absolutely atrocious. Too slow, too ponderous. Everytime he got the ball I was afraid of what was going to happen next.
Unfortunately , I have to admit McGeady is a squad filler, no more. He has no impact on a game for long stretches at a time .Not enough real pace and no real determination. Too many flicks, too much possession given away.
Distin has finally been caught by father time. But, I did think Alcaraz played quite well.
Since when has Smuel Eto'o been a midfielder, and not a great one. Play him as a striker or
let him on the bench.

The green shots of recovery.
Coleman playing much better than recently, Garbutt a genuine premiership class full back, Baines
imo comfortable in midfield in his first game in that role.
Barkley bringing life into the team with his introduction, constantly trying to make things happen,
ignore his mistake for the goal , these things happen.
Kone played well and Mirallas I think is more striker than winger.
Unlike many others I thought Robles did well enough in his first premiership start to earn the right
to make that position his own. I don't think any of the goals were his fault and there could easily have been at least two or three more if not for him.
Can't argue with most of that only the Baines quote,I thought he had no idea where to be or what to do,not his fault judging by Garbutts comments

Miralles to play off Kone that's the attack sorted
all that's left to sort is the keeper, back 4, midfield, wingers, subs, manager, chairman and new billionaire owners

piece of P....................

The only good thing from the game is... Martinez is one game nearer to sack. We dont have a hope to win a game in the near future. Against crap teams we loose by one goal . Against better ones it will be 2,3 or 4.

Robles needs a confidence boost imo. Think it's beyond harsh to write him off when he hasn't had a serious run in the team in a position notorious for needing time. Add to that he's come into the team bereft of confidence and making silly defensive mistakes.
I'm not saying I think he's a great goalie because I just don't know.
I do remember a great goalkeeper being loaned out due to a less than convincing spell between the sticks.

Robles did well, only the three goals conceded LOL

Has he kept a clean sheet for us yet?

Like a scarecrow having a handy shandy, you are clutching at straws here

Well as there was nothing he could have done for any of the goals yesterday I don't see how you can blame him, and he did make at least one smart save...

that pass to mirallas was alright, i was very confused as to where he was playing tho...

We lined up like this:

Joel
Coleman Alcaraz Distin Garbutt
Barry
McCarthy---Baines
McGeady-----Kone--------Eto'o
I thought he did alright at CM, myself. But it seemed odd to not start Barkley or Besic (can't remember if he was on the bench), who are natural CMs.

Truly I don't think Garbutt is a genuine premiership left back. Yet. He looked completely overawed yesterday in my opinion, a reflection of the sheer disorganisation we suffered from. I know we wanted changes yesterday but it was as if RM just decided to do them all at once in desperation. I'm still as annoyed this morning as last night!

Agreed.

Garbutt, for all his potential, did not look particularly good yesterday, IMO.

The only real plus for me.....and this is a pretty big plus....was Kone.

I thought he played excellently.

The ball stuck when it came to him....he controlled it quickly and laid it if well....he was lively and full of running.

Deffo gets the nod over Rom at Hull for me.

Or start showing some blue sky thinking, Roberto.....how about trying both Rom and Kone up top and feed the ball early to them in positions where they are facing the opposition goal.
