ahh, the good old days when military surplus was sold to other nations and not the police and the worst crimes you worried about your elected officials committing in office was doing lines on the Mayor’s desk.

LOL, when I was growing up he (Mayor Barry) wasn't doing lines (it was crack), and he was at the Mayflower Hotel.

Nice one! Welcome to the forum—where did you grow up? I live in Montgomery County these days. No shame in being an O’s fan!

Yup, I grew up in MoCo and my parents still live there (Silver Spring). Small world, right?

I did a tour of the East Coast of 'Merica when I was younger. Boston, New York, New Jersey, Cape Cod, even did Niagra falls. I massively pissed my mUm off the whole time begging her to see the Chicago Bulls. My Yank uncle always used to laugh whilst my mum fobbed me off with excuses. I looked at a map not long after that....

Oops.

Oops.
We had visitors from Japan to our DC office last year. Felt really bad explaining to them why visiting the Grand Canyon over the weekend wouldn’t be possible

America is so obnoxiously huge though. It has everything, as an avid skier to an awful footballer I never would have went short over there. The people are also fantastic, by and large. Spent many an hour on detachment with Americans, couldn't keep up with our drinking but their humour was top notch. They did destroy me one night at beer pong in a 24 hour vodka bar in Aalborg which I would appreciate if it could delete from my memory.

Honestly, one of the joys in following the Premier League for the past year and a half is that I've learned alot of geography about England. I always assumed things in Europe are close together but then I have to remind myself that England is basically the size of Indiana, and for Newcastle fans to take a trip to Brighton, that's actually a pretty long haul.

Of course, our sense of 'far' is also very different here. I regularly drive to my parents for the holidays -- 700 miles each way and my german coworkers think that's insane.

There's a saying someone told me once: "In the US, 100 years is a long time. In Europe, 100 miles is a long drive."

Thanks for the warm welcome!

They will eventually bring back a team name, although ownership has said they might stick to being the WFT if fans take to it. The issue was that they announced they were dropping the old name 2 weeks before training camp started last year and this is a massive rebranding. It would've gone over very poorly if they'd chosen a name so quickly. This gives them much longer to research/unveil a new brand identity and properly promote it.

Didn't someone buy up a load of domain names as soon as it looked likely that they would change their name ? Hence why they're the WFT right now ? The NFC East is absolutely brutal this year :)....

I started following the club 18 months ago because 9am on the weekends in the US is the only time I have to watch sports anymore. I made Everton my side because I didn't want to jump on a Top 6 bandwagon, or end up getting relegated. It's been a wonderful 18 months learning how passionate Evertonians are (and all of the other great stuff that comes along with being a Toffee - EITC, etc.).

(Also my two other sports favorites- the Washington Football Team and the Baltimore Orioles, are consistently amongst the worst teams in their leagues, so its great to discover a sport where tanking on purpose isn't a thing).

Can't wait to visit Goodison once we're allowed back in your country. (I did see Everton at West Ham in March 2019, but I sat very quietly with the home fans and wore neutral colors :p )

Welcome. I'm in San Diego. Don't the Chicago folks meet up at AJ Hudsons (is that the name) ? One of our guys was there this past weekend. I follow the Blackhawks if you have any interest in the NHL.....

yeah they have a good crowd at AJ Hudson’s— I’ve only made it there once though because weekend mornings are my personal chill out time so I usually put the games on at home. I’ve traded Twitter DMs with one of the people in charge and he’s an awesome guy.

I do follow the NHL but I don’t have a particular team- generally some combination of the Red Wings, Blackhawks, and Capitals (odd combo, I know, but I’ve lived in all three cities)
