Groucho's Fact Hunt

The series Futurama was so well made that only things spotted years later show you how much love went into that show.

In the first episode made, fry is pushed into the cryochamber and is frozen for 1000 years. Towards the end of the shows overall run (series 6 or 7) it ends up telling you that a little creature introduced in season 2 or 3 called nibbler was the one who had gone back and pushed fry into the cryochamber.

Sounds all very crap so far right? Silly storyline for the sake of it to fill the series?

go back to that first episode, remember they were even cancelled at one point for years. but go back and see that episode again, when fry is pushed there is a shadow on the wall, the same shaped shadow as....nibbler!

that is how much love they put into futurama, even some little details that didn't even get shown for 10+ years was in there the whole time!

Quite a lot of good shows do this, just easier to spot these days because of internet. Mad Men did it loads, probably only noticed 10% of it and its my fave show.

Think it is more significant in a show like futurama because unlike the simpsons, they had canon for it the whole time no matter how silly you thought it became. There is loads of things like this.

Fringe did something similar as you say about little things. think in the first series (or every episode in the whole thing) there was an observer in one shot. Blink and you will miss them type of thing most of the time, but mad reading about it after watching it all that they put them in every episode before they even made them important to the plot

For the old arses. Does anyone remember the sit-com The Brothers McGregor? Starring Phillip Whitchurch and Paul Barber as half-brothers in Liverpool?
Well did you know it was actually a spin off from Coronation Street?
When Eddie Yates and Marion Willis got engaged, they had a do in the Rovers Return and two of the guests were the McGregor brothers.
Annie walker was forced to ring the police when the brothers rolled the piano on to the street to continue the party.
Writers and producers at Coronation street were so taken with the characters, that they decided to give them their own show.
Carl Chase and Tony Osaba (of Porridge, and later, Coronation street as Peter Ingram!) were either unable to reprise their roles or didn't want the parts, and so Whitchurch and Barber stepped in.

Out of 193 countries that are currently UN member states, the United Kingdom has invaded or fought conflicts in the territories of 171.

That's just shy of 90% (89.52% to be precise) of the countries on the Earth that we've decided to participate in hostilities with.

What's our W, D, L. ratio then?...how we doing on the all time list?
