Groucho's Fact Hunt

The Irish harp is the official symbol of the republic of Ireland, used on passports and official paperwork. When Ireland became a free state in 1922 , they wanted the harp as their national emblem but years earlier Guinness had it as copyright for themselves, so furious negotiations took place and Guinness allowed them to use it on condition they used it the other way around.View attachment 56898View attachment 56899
Bit like British and American striped ties.

Celtic Park - The North Stand is squeezed into a tight space between the pitch and the Eastern Necropolis. Part of the upper tier is cantilevered over the graveyard. To save at least £1 million of additional steelwork, fourteen internal pillars were installed to support the roof.
Some local residents objected to the North Stand because of the shadow cast over the cemetery, which Celtic believed was necessary to complete the overall project. The proposals were passed because the local officials felt that Celtic had come up with the best solution possible to the problem. Celtic paid £10,000 to compensate residents (dead people, I assume) who had been promised open space "from the centre of the earth to the sky"

“Feels Like I’m In Love”

Written and first released by Mungo Jerry, getting to number #1, then released by Kelly Marie who also got it to #1 making it the first song to be taken to #1 by two artists.

Also, this was written by Ray Dorset of Mungo Jerry for Elvis Presley, however he died before he could record it.

Sorry Groucho but as far as Mungo Jerry goes it was only an album filler on the 6-a side album and was a B-side on one of their singles, don't know if there was another artist apart from Kelly Marie that took it to No.1

There are several instances of songs from different artists that made No1 before this example, the most noteable of which is my crowd singing favourite

  • "Singing The Blues" - Guy Mitchell / Tommy Steele (both 1957)

It's cast over the Protestant graves.
Celtic actually offered twice as much.
Fact .
Unfortunately not.

Ever so sorry, I realised that fact after I posted, however the Elvis aspect is bob on true.

Ok lads it time for me to issue the standard ‘we don’t do sectarian here’ thing, in case anyone was thinking of latching on to this.

We’ve both Protestants and Catholic supporters, and were formed from a Methodist church and we’ve all been friendly so let’s keep it that way.

I hope that you don’t think I was trying to be provocative. I was just posting an interesting fact that I came across whilst reading a novel.
