Groucho's Fact Hunt

A neutron star is the remnants of a massive star that has run out of fuel. The dying star explodes in a supernova while its core collapses in on itself due to gravity, forming a super-dense neutron star. Astronomers measure the mind-bogglingly large masses of stars or galaxies in solar masses, with one solar mass equal to the Sun’s mass (that is, 2 x 1030 kilograms/4.4 x 1030 pounds). Typical neutron stars have a mass of up to three solar masses, which is crammed into a sphere with a radius of approximately ten kilometres (6.2 miles) – resulting in some of the densest matter in the known universe.

Short version:

A teaspoon of one is about 6 billion tonnes. Heavier than yer ma.

To put that into context, one teaspoon would weigh the same as Mount Everest.

Today (28th August) in 1937, Dixie Dean scored his last goal for Everton in a 4-1 home defeat to Arsenal.

It was his 383 goal in all competitions for the Blues.
Also today in history, 28th August 1207, the town of Liverpool was founded. 812 years old today.

Sitting out in the garden today I watched some massive commercial jet aeroplane making its way to land at Heathrow Airport. It crossed my mind that my grandfather was 22 years old when the Wright brothers first flew their invention in 1903. We've come a long way in a relatively (no pun intended) short time.

Howard Kendall and Bryan Ferry both played in the same school team - Washington Grammar School.

Although I previously knew both facts, I’m awarding this week’s award jointly.

Lads, get fact.

The ostrich is the largest bird in the world and can weigh as much as 350 lbs so it should probably have a place in @Groucho's 'absolute units' thread.
It is capable of killing a man with one kick. However, here's an interesting fact that could just save your life (in the unlikely event that you should find yourself in a fight with an ostrich) lol

Ostriches don't kick backwards as you might expect, they kick forwards

The Big Mac had two previous names, both of which failed in the marketplace: the Aristocrat, which consumers found difficult to pronounce and understand, and Blue Ribbon Burger. The third name, Big Mac, was created by Esther Glickstein Rose, a 21-year-old advertising secretary who worked at McDonald’s corporate headquarters.
