Went to Trier years ago and visited Karl Marx Haus. I had to buy this souvenir:Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels were fond of a bevvy - they used to drink in the Thatched House pub in central Manchester, where they formulated the Communist Manifesto. The pub no longer exists - it's opposite the Arndale centre and is now a Boots chemist.
I assume this works on the same principle as people walking on a conveyorbelt that's moving in the same direction as they are walking. Rather than taking longer, it just helps them walk faster (relative to the stationary ground around them)An ant is inching along a rope at one centimeter per second. The rope is made of rubber, and being stretched at a rate of kilometer per second. Will it ever reach the end?
Yes! For any speed, as long as it is constant. Apparently an important paradox to understand for astronomers and cosmologists trying to figure out the expansion of the universe and things like that.
