yeah, but we will have to build it out of cardboard boxes we can collect from supermarkets, because all the free land in the world isnt going to conjure a new stadium.
scratch that... conjure a brand spanking new state of the art world class stadium*
Bollocks, there is no way in hell that this vote is going to favour with Everton staying at Goodison. Its PR to the max, and is an operation to just prove how Everton are unique in how they treat their fans.
If the Bush administration can fake the Florida vote I am fairly confident that Wyness can fake the Stadium vote.
Think of it, why would any hardcore Evertonian want to leave Goodison Park? They wouldn't, so they would never vote in favour - and especially for a square ground with no character.
After listening to that interview I doubt even if the vote swings in favour of the fans that they are going to stay at Goodison. No way, not going to happen.
Were moving regardless. This is one way to smooth it over and extend a proverbial handshake to the fan and pat on the back and say lets move forward. It's the only option on the table and will be fastracked believe me.
The club wouldn't pay for the land though and the council wouldn't give it away to them
I'd be up for a move there - parking wouldn't be great though, they're stopping people parking around Walton without a permit within the next few months I think.
Ghost Wally Hall Park is on the East Lancs Road A580, about 1.5 miles from Gp and about 1 mile from Queens Drive. In fact it was just before where Littlewoods Pools used to be if you were travelling out of the city.
I mentioned this as a possible site yonks ago in some posts.
To an extent I agree, but the pressure should also be coming from Everton for a decent peice of land to build on somewhere in the city aswell, they're so focused on just moving to Kirkby that i get the impression they really aren't that bothered by any proposal being offered.
Liverpool got Stanley Park (not that I actually agree that they should be given that land - i'm not completely sure how it worked and whether any input was taken by the council by the surrounding residents or they just went ahead and gave the land up) - but they had to go through the same process of pressure to get it.
Walton Hall Park would actually be an excellent choice to move to IMO, it's a 5 minute walk from where Goodison currently is and there's plenty of space there to develop on. At least half of it would probably be unlikely to be sold or given away though as they've spend abit of money developing parts of the park anyway, so whats currently there would need relocating (it's probably not even half of it...1/4-1/3 of it has had sports stuff added there, it wouldnt be completely out of reach to do, i'm sure any costs would be minimal compared to stadium costs).
It would be large enough to build a pretty big stadium - money comes into it again though, even if the council did just give away the land, the club would just turn around and say they can't afford to build a stadium on it's own anyway.
