Everyone except Spain and Portugal has looked average so far. The format doesn't help. Teams are playing more for position and pacing themselves to some extent.

This is Germany's strongest team. Alarm bells needed to go off when they had to beg Toni Kroos to come back. That kind of thing only happens in German football when the next generation has failed to come through.

They will struggle to beat Italy or Denmark in the last 16. If I were English, I'd be confident playing them in the last 8. They are not contenders.
