I don't get the referees here. On the Messi free kick then, he took almost a minute to get the Saudi players behind the foam line he'd marked out, yet let another of their players stand a full yard ahead of it on the 18-yard box line. Weird.

So with this take if Germany had a couple of players sent off first ten minutes when they played Argies in the final and argies scored a horrible own goal and got the spawniest win ever, this now elevates Messi to GOAT. Because of that one game? Bizarre

Well that's certainly a realistic scenario that might happen...

You may as well gone with "What if a meteor hits the Earth just before the final whistle with Argentina 4-0 up and cruising after Messi has had a MOTM performance?"

Where would this rank on all-time World Cup upsets? Got to be right up there. 3rd in the FIFA rankings against 51st.

Great question, I remember in 1990 that Argentina never really got going, but the result was incredible and it's always my first reference point for world cup upsets. That Cameroon scored after going down to ten men only adds to that.

Senegal beating France was more of a surprise than a shock and I think Costa Rica turning Italy over in Brazil 2014 (the last real world cup) has maybe been overlooked.

Those are the three that I pull from my memory. I remember being genuinely awestruck by Germany dismantling Brazil 7-1 in their backyard, it was like watching a playstation game.

They've been over capacity with every annoucement, aye
The stadium announcer said the attendance at the England game was something like 45k, then the BBC commentator said the capacity of the stadium is circa 63k, and you could see a load of empty seats.
