I think it's more down to crap officials rather than some kind of favouritism of the Asian sides to be honest

I'll reserve judgment on that as the tournament goes on

If you're supposedly trying to fix a game and it ends 6-2 against the team you're supposedly favouring then either you're not fixing it or you're astoundingly bad at fixing a football game
It's not about fixing who wins. That would be ridiculous. They know the smaller nations are going to get beat by the top sides. But they don't want it being a total humiliation. They are selling a brand so want something in it for everyone. A goal here, or a dissalowed goal there and it keeps it interesting for everyone.

No, it should be based on how it was before this utter tripe of VAR was introduced. Leave it to the linesman, and tell them to only flag if they are absolutely sure that the player is offside. I would much rather see a goal given even when a player was marginally offside, than see a goal ruled out because the player was literally half an inch offside. It's totally ruining the game and takes away from what football has always been about, spontaneous enjoyment.
Yes this didn't actually work for officiating the rules fairly though. And that's fine but just be honest about what you're looking for

If they were to scrap VAR, I would hope that one of the unintended consequences would be fans recognising that linesman are making split second decisions in a lot of moving parts in 3 dimensions and get off their back.

I'm genuinley not arsed about perfection in refereeing. It's a game played by humans, we accept that those playing the game make mistakes (well, some of us do), I'm prepared to accept the same from the officials.

VAR is fine. It's that they keep creating ambiguous rules that are open to interpretation. Offside should be based off players feet. Literally every other sport does this. It gives an easy reference point and it doesn't matter if a player is leaning (which the attacking player will always be leaning towards goal).

Absolutely this. Been saying it since VAR was introduced. You’re only gaining an advantage if your feet are in an offside position, you don’t run with your head or shoulder.

Wasn’t that Rock Bottom on Maguire when the game was 0-0 ? Can’t remember but I think it was

How was the referee not told to take a look at that but in the same game, by the same VAR officials, told the referee to look at a slight tug of a shirt.

The narrative is clear imo

There is only so much you can fix when there is such an enormous gap in quality between the teams, short of just giving the opposition 5 red cards as soon as they make their first foul I don’t know what else you can do. But if this is simply incompetence rather than corruption then every single official in the tournament should be sacked on the spot because you could drag anyone off the street to do a better job than them.

Don't forget a lot of these officials are used to performing in front of tiny crowds with football at a snails pace. A lot of them are hopeless.

I still think officials should be forced to 'qualify' in a similar way to teams rather than just being selected by some typically opaque and arbitrary FIFA method.
