As far as I was aware in the case of your mate (and like my mum in her primary school bubble last year). They have to isolate but not who they live with unless they get symptoms, then they all have to isolate.

Yeah that's the case. To me it doesn't really make sense, because surely his mum and gf are close contacts to him and he's having to isolate etc.

I can only assume the approach being taken with professional athletes is that since they're tested every 3 days or whatever, and it's the proper PCR tests, there's more leniancy?

God knows. There's very little logic to it. Shame for the lad.

But he's not confirmed to have COVID and doesn't have symptoms.

Yeah I know, just with how it passes on then surely there's still the risk.

Anyway, if the Scotland players have tested negative then that should be good enough - and in wider sense, it should be good enough for everyday folk too.

I think Croatia will beat them regardless tbf. They can actually play footy, unlike Southgate, though they do look an old team.

Did we not beat Croatia??

We did, we did a good job on bogging Modric down though I do fear there was a lot of revisionism around just how good the performance was. From an attacking perspective, there has been very little in either game, in relative terms to the players we have available.

I think Croatia will have enough to beat Scotland if they click.

Well I've revised my opinion of Rice and Phillips' passing abilities.

I'm thinking less "we controlled the game" and more we barely created anything.

Rice is a disrupter. Phillips is a good passer from deep. He should not have been used for 90 mins in a box-to-box role against Scotland, though.

Nothing really wrong with starting both of them but if you need a goal then against Scotland at Wembley, you don't need to be having them both on the pitch.

Like a sort of Yorkshire Pirlo quote unquote?

tbf would back him over Hendo

Tbf I do rate Phillips. He's very good in the no.6 role and against Croatia proved he can be effective going forward but that was against a midfield built to attack, not one built to sit in front of a back five.

Against Scotland, Southgate had a defensive midfielder making the runs an attacking box-to-box player should have been making.
