So, that changes things significantly.

The Germans are - basically - clinging on with a full hand for dear life after that, when they'd previously been reduced to one fingernail over the precipice. A defeat tonight means that Spain are through and can play the reserves against Japan, so defeat probably means elimination. A draw tonight means Spain have to get something from Japan to top the group. That would allow the Germans to leapfrog Japan with a win over Costa Rica.

Essentially, this result means a draw is now a valuable prize for Germany tonight. Get a point and beat the Costa Ricans and it'd take a Japan win over Spain to mean the Germans need a seven-goal haul in the last game.
That you didn't mention the Germany gets all 3 scenario means it is nailed on, especially since following a strong performance with a not so good one seems to be the theme so far.

At the risk of getting ahead of myself, if the Germans do survive and finish second, they could find themselves playing Morocco in the last 16. Now, Morocco are a far better side than most gave them credit for being, but today - so far - has potentially been rather kind to the Germans. I suspect they aren't good enough to take advantage of the smiling gods...

What do we think? WC starts proper today? First heavyweight clash Spain vs Germany?

Sunday night sorted. Lovely.
Can honestly see Germany setting up defensively and taking the point, then going all out v Costa Rica and that’s how they’ll get out of the group

I think there is zero chance you see an attacking Germany tonight
