The ref was called to have a look because he is required to decide if the offside player was interfering

He was both offside and interfering. If it was only one or the other the goal would’ve stood

If he was onside how could be interfering ?

De Bruyne is correct but probably shouldn’t be saying it in an interview. Could have been taken the wrong way though as these things often are. He might have been saying it tongue in cheek and it’s been reported verbatim.
