I really don't understand resting players when there's a potential bye to the next round vs Japan waiting.
because if you beat Japan then you likely have to face Brazil then one of Arg/Fra/Por/Uru in the semis while if you get 2nd you get Colombia ( James is injured) then Sweden/Swiss in the quarters.

This is the situation Big Sam was made for.
His line up in this game tonight would have been off the scale incredible.

Let's be clear: if this was an ordinary situation Turnip Souhgate and his Crusaders would be sent packing by our record point amassing manager and his Belgian team.

Not like the rat-faced Everton manager hating McNulty to get his facts wrong like.

He makes everything else up I suppose.

But why would England look that far ahead? They surely wouldn't do that again after the euros? Colombia are better than them, Japan are worse, you never know what's going to happen.

Didn't do South Korea put harm by having to play Italy, spain before Germany.

it's natural to look ahead, I guess they're confident they can win their round of 16. Belgium is doing the same

I'm quietly confident against Japan but can't be getting carried away by one half against Tunisia and a win over Panama. Tournament football is brutal and I think England will find themselves in a game against any of the other teams left.

Belgium B vs England B, not much at stake, Martinez would rather come 2nd in the group.

Not the clash we had all been expecting before the competition kicked off.
