You don't have to buy into it - christ, majority of the Blues on here aren't Scouse - but still, it's a valid question.

We hate the majority of these players every other weekend, so why should we get behind them just because they're from a few hours away from where we live? Nah.

Most of our traffic is Liverpool but get your point.

Also agree on the sincerity element - it can feel like its lacking integrity to suddenly support players you otherwise dont like but then that view can also be a bit small time.

I could never really get behind England when it had Gerrard, Carragher, Ferdinand and Capello as manager etc.

You dont support out of choice.

Like with Everton, really.

I appreciate what grates when it comes to England - media/pundits and until recently - the players.

I'm more perplexed at the scousers who every tournament feel compelled to tell everyone just how much they dont support England.

I feel sorry for English people who enjoy football who cant get behind their national team due to a weird complex.
No way any fan of Everton has England flags on their cars etc.

I don't mind England, I certainly won't jump out my chair if they score though.

It's odd to explain I guess.

I hate them, I hate the players, I hardly watch friendlies, but every 2 years, I just cant help getting behind them.

Its just cool to hate them all the time.

Plus of course im not a scouser so im allowed to support them!!!!!!!

Why is it, genuine question, such a crime to support your own national team? Every other Sport in this country gets behind their respective England team regardless of who they support domestically, ie Wigan and St Helens in RL, Lancashire and Yorkshire in cricket, Wasps and Leicester in RU

Must admit although an Evertonian first I've always supported England even if full of other teams players but understand those that can't, just depends on your character I suppose. Still remember how upset I was after we lost out on pens in Euro 96.

Tonight though

Well played England even if you tried to win: that could hardly have gone better from a tournament draw point of view.

Colombia are tough although hardly playing very well but we've probably just given ourselves the best chance for 30 years (albeit a slim chance) of going all the way and rested almost the entire team.

A hollow victory not worth it for such a massive ask afterwards

It's a not crime.

Nor is it a crime to not support the team. Just some go way too overboard with it - on both sides.

Pickford’s parrying needs to improve. Always into the danger areas.
In fairness we all know this to be his main fault. Still, he got away with them tonight.

Not his fault for the goal. Somebody like De Gea might have saved it but that's why he's word class.

England did their job tonight. Good chance now of reaching the semi's when anything can happen.

I find nationalism and saying you have no choice but to support England to be a 'weird complex' personally, but I guess it's about perspective.

I personally can't bring myself to support a team and culture that's paralyzed by a bunch of bells from top to bottom simply because of where I was born.
