Loftus-Cheek as widely predicted looks certain to replace the injured Dele Alli

Fully deserved almost representating a lost generation of players who've come through the younger age groups at Chelsea.

While packing him off to Palace, Chelsea have also spent heavily on Danny Drinkwater, Ross Barkley and Tiemoue Bakayako. Drinkwater has been a late game-closing sub while Barkley has disappeared. Only Bakayako, who started badly at Stamford Bridge, has shown form in the same class as Loftus-Cheek’s at Palace.

Should really be England vs. the colonies today. First time I’ve been mad the USA didn’t qualify.

What an awful game that would be though.

Martinez had to be sacked by us, no question about that but, to be fair, he seems to have found his calling as manager of a national team. Belgium look streets ahead of those no marks masquerading as England players.
With the obvious exception of the world class keeper of course!

I'd expect this to be a very unlikely scenario, even more so if England were to win today, as surely they'd want to face easier opponents in the last sixteen.
I think it's the round after that which will be in RM's and Turnip Southgate's mind. One route could lead to a much tougher appointment in the quarters.

Simple answer is that they are better players, it's not the manager.
I liked bobby Brown shoes, but he had to go.
The players got him sacked. They weren't capapble of developing.

Martinez's problem was that he kept faith with them and was determined to prove those players could step up another level from the first season. The fact of the matter is that Baines and Jagielka and Mirallas etc were pony. And still are three years later...and we still have them here now.

Horrendous thought.

Would like to see Felli starting and KDB playing further up, Carrusco is the weak link in that side and should be dropped to accommodate, Dembele is the other option but with Kompany out Felli defends set pieces better. Great options to have though, hopefully martinez is not the same stubborn guy who managed everton and shows some flex
