I will never understand why a club not being able to fill their stadium is considered some terrible thing. Their fanbase in England is very much local (much like Everton) and thus they don't pull in as many tourists as historically glamorous clubs like United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea etc. However if they dominate for another 10 years or so they will soon have a domestic and global fanbase that is in the same ball park as other big clubs in the country
Anyway, bragging about having more fans is the kind of thing glory hunters and kids do, so what if they have a smaller fanbase, are clubs with huge fanbases only allowed nice things ?
Because a certain set of fans have this narcissistic sociopathic thing going on, where they have to be seen to be better than the rest, regardless of anything. The number of alternative tables to show that they are top of something is evidence of this.
If it isn't attendance, it is pressing stats, it is headers won, it is we have a player who is the best at everything, there is always something in the media telling us that they are the best of the best in the world.
Customers like our optimist friend lap it up and believe it so they continuously and obsessively have to keep mentioning it to everybody who pretends to listen in the hope they will turn around and 'Wow, you really are the best of the best aren't you'.
