2018/19 Gylfi Sigurdsson

I never said he would play into his 40's, but I most certainly think he is capable of doing it. Bergkamp created 20 G/A at 36 years old. Zidane retired at 35 arguably at his peak

Pace reliant players decline rapidly around 29-31. Rooney, Owen, Mata, etc were all past it before their 30's. Sigurdsson in my opinion is just getting started at 29 years old.

Saying he goes missing in games in beyond ridiculous. There wasn't a game this season where he didn't show up & deliver.

Against Fulham as an example, everybody singled him out for 'not delivering' even though he literally only received 13 passes from his team mates throughout the entire match.

That's right. 13 passes. Our best player was starved off the ball from his own team mates. Digne had well over 90 touches that game & everybody else got on the ball.

Yet nobody created anything besides Sigurdsson, who put DCL 1on1 & also found himself in a perfect goal scoring situation. Gueye however opted to shoot instead of passing it to him.

In the span of 1½ minutes Sigurdsson created the equalizer & found himself perfectly positioned to score the winner.

Instead DCL wasted his 1on1 & Gueye selfishly didn't pass the ball. Yet Sigurdsson was taken off after 74 minutes despite creating 2 chances, one of them being a big chance.

I'd love for you to substantiate any of your claims of 'Sigurdsson going missing' but the truth is you have nothing to say.

And just like that @RickyRyder is back lol

Was verging on becoming ant Siggy for a long time, and while I still hate it when he goes missing its impossible to ignore how much he brings to the team when he's up for it.

I doubt if Siggy is on anyone's hit list for shipping out? He is not perfect but when you look at the detritus on our books, we have other priorities to get rid of. I think some heaped the blame for his fee on him, conveniently ignoring that he had nothing whatever to do with his transfer fee. Referring to that fee, was he a bad signing? No. Was the fee excessive? Yes, but so what?

I don't mean this as a criticism because he had a great year and got better in that last good stretch but I think it's funny just how slow he is. If the ball is in any way played away from his feet he is second to it. It amuses me when someone tries to play in behind for him. He isn't getting there.

No midfielder in the Premier League, Serie A, La Liga or Ligue 1 scored more goals than Sigurdsson (13)

Only two midfielders created more chances (74)

Directly involved in 27 of our 54 PL goals this season.

Everton's top scorer (13), top assister (6) & top chance creator (74). Where would we be this season without him?

£45 million was a bargain. Sigurdsson essentially carried the team without any service or anyone to finish his easy 1on1 chances.

Slight problem with this...

Sigurdsson was played as a SUPPORT FORWARD

Not every game. You could see when Morgan was in there he played deeper. Cardiff was the first one I remember where he played deeper. But yes, he should be evaluated more as an attacking player, no question. Certainly out of possession he would be one of the two forwards in a 4-4-2.

Regardless, he was productive. He would be even moreso with a proper CF and a better CM that could provide more creativity as well as support in defense.

He's a #10 with free role. He played ST/SS during the 2nd half of 2015/16, completely different compared to his current role.

Doesnt matter how you butter it up...

He was playing closer to DCL than Gomes for almost the entire season

So his stats should be compared to a support forward / 2nd striker etc

13 goals is ok...not WOW...its ok.

Seeing as he didnt do much else.

You spent the majority of last season calling him crap & hoping for Lookman to take his spot.

Absolutely dreadful. Lookman should take his spot.

Nobody in those 4 major leagues scored more goals than him from midfield. Doesn't matter how you try to spin it, and even if you do you'll just end up sounding like a conspiracy theorist.

Only 9 Premier League players scored more goals than him this season. Aumbameyang(22), Mane(22), Salah(22), Aguero(21), Vardy(18), Kane(17), Sterling(17), Hazard(17) & Wilson(14)

''Seeing as he didn't do much else'' He was directly responsible for 50% of our PL goals, Everton's top scorer, top assister, top chance creator. Similar stats to Digne defensively.

Yet Cahill is Considered as a midfeilder , people love Cahill and day he’s a mid and that makes his goal return look impressive , people do t like siggy so like to make him a striker to downplay his goal return

apart from being Everton's top scorer (13), top assister (6) & top chance creator (74) what did Sig ever do for us?

There’s a monty python sketch in there somewhere!

I don’t think there’s many that don’t like him.

He’s certainly a good player to have, perhaps the question is how he’s used.
