Shot was going wide, it would have been an own goal, offside doesn’t apply.

I'm not so sure it was going wide, but it doesn't make any difference. He was already in an offside position when we had the ball.

He played a part in the goal - by getting out of the way.

I’m not sure you understand the rules.

How can you not be interfering with play when you are sitting upright, a couple of yards in front of the goal - between the goalkeeper and the ball, and then have to actually move out of the way of the ball, because you are directly in the way of the ball travelling towards the goal? If he hadn't moved it wouldn't have gone in, so he influenced the goal, from an off side position. Also, when Dom took the shot, he is definitely in De Gea's line of vision. It didn't make any difference, because of the deflection, but he was definitely in exactly the wrong place.

Would you have the same opinion if this happened at the other end? Or if it wasn't in the dying seconds of the game?

The only defence I can make for him is that he made a judgement call to sit still - in order to not be interfering with play. Unfortunately for him, the ball went straight at him. This meant he had to move out of the way - which brought him back into play.

Actual former PL referees say it should have counted so I’m not sure why you’re bothering here.

Just a note on LoS: if Sig was in De Gea’s LoS when DCL took the shot how on earth would he have known to dive to the right and not the left? Let’s see you try explain that one.

I didn't say he was blocking his line of vision, I said he was directly in the way. That's not the same thing. It means he was a distraction. If DCL had taken the shot, and it had gone to the side Sigurdsson was on, then he would certainly have been deemed to have been interfering with play. De Gea would have known any shot going to his left would have been ruled out. He could focus on the other side - where the ball was actually going. If DCL had beaten De Gea on his right (the opposite side from where Sigurdsson was sitting), then the goal would have stood. Unfortunately the deflection took it back to where Sigurdsson was sitting, which meant he was now interfering with play. It made no difference that De Gea was going the other way, because anything that went to the side of the goal where Sigurdsson was sitting, had to be ruled out.

I want to agree with you mate, and for a couple of hours on Sunday I would have.

I'm just happy we are now in a place where we feel unlucky to not have beaten Man Utd. Three months ago we were a million miles away from that.

What's happened to the goals, really dried up for him. Doesn't look the same player and he wasn't that great to start with.

Thought he was on his last legs last season albeit he was scoring goals to make up for average performances, Now he has got worse and doesn't offer nothing.
