Part of a midfield duo that got completely dominated on their own patch and completely bypassed in creating both goals. Ancelotti then had to bring another midfielder on, plus a defender to allow the full backs to come into midfield, just so we didn’t continue to be utterly swamped. What part of that is him putting in a good performance?

Was decent yesterday but no more than that.

I'm just not sure why he isn't more expansive. He's got great range of passing but everything seems to be short and tidy.

He's not a long term solution in there, far from it. I think Carlo will have to stick someone else in there with them Vs Spurs.

I completely agree - perhaps just a massive confidence issue? He would know better than anyone that he has been utter rubbish for the last 12 months.

Did what was instructed of him yesterday, will probably stick around for another year purely on the basis that no one will want to pay his wages. But at the same time he is someone I imagine Carlo can rely on to carry out instructions and be composed on the ball.

Says a lot that gylfis lack of goals coincides with our lack of penalties.....

....for a player who strikes a ball so well I actually think he’s a poor penalty taker. No idea why he needs to show the goalie ‘the eyes’, much prefer he pick a corner and concentrate on hitting the ball accurately with pace.

Despite the system not suiting, he’s doing a job in the last few games. The game turned for us when he came on at Norwich and he put in a shift last night.

I thought he gave us good control in the derby too when he came on.

Unfortunately with the price tag and the expectation that he would be a player who single handedly revived us it was always going to be hard for him. I doubt just being a cog in a machine will be enough for most fans, which is fair enough.

However, Ancelotti can clearly trust him, he's solid, passes the ball ok and fills in in a number of positions. It's probably not what he wanted, he wanted the team built around him but he's not good enough to justify it. He does appear to be ok with being a cog in the machine though and playing a little deeper.

The manager will not be bothered how much was spent on him before. If he does a job for him, he will want to keep picking him.

...he was poor leading up to lockdown. He looked bereft of caring which is so unlike him.

Yes perhaps. He's certainly looked like he cares the last couple of games though. I know people don't like the arm pointing, but having leadership and organisation in a team is important.

The lad is quite limited. He's one paced, he can't go past people, he's not really a tackler (though he does ok in that department) I don't think he's intricate. It;s not his fault we paid 40-45m for him.

His ability really is he has great ability in his right foot. He can strike the ball well, and deliver the ball well. He also gets back into position and is quite disciplined without the ball. He's probably one, that if an offer came in he'd probably go, but if it doesn't Ancelotti will probably seek to use him and as fans we have to accept he's not going to be the player we felt he was.
