2019/20 Gylfi Sigurdsson

He's more than likely gonna be here unless a club stumps up silly money and as a bit-part player there's obviously worse players to have.

Shouldn't be starting but as it stands, there's nobody else. The plan is obviously to change that by the time the season starts.

His free-kick was good. He was crap in the anchor role. The whole team is bang average. Meh.

...very surprised at him last season, more because of his attitude than performance. Playing as an orthodox CM doesn’t suit but there were times when he meandered through games, which surprised me because I consider him a good professional.

if he’s fit and firing I don’t mind Ancelotti having access to him.

Do you think he went hiding mate?

I haven’t checked last season, but i think in the previous 2 he was one of our top players per k, per game, I think he was averaging between 10-12 a game.

I agree though, he’s never a CM. I think it’s really harsh to judge and draw conclusions if you feel he’s doing a job playing out of position.

There's actual Everton fans saying they would rather Sigurdsson didn't score a goal, and would rather Everton lost a game than Sigurdsson score.

There's actual Everton fans turning against Carlo Ancelotti because he's playing Sigurdsson ahead of the likes of ... answers on a postcard.

All this after that player scored 2 goals and created an assist in an absolutely nothing fixture.

It's really, really weird.

Have a word.
Just on the off, from all the matches Carlo Ancelotti has seen of Sigurdsson playing in, in what matches do you feel he was even "good" in, much less deserving of being a captain? I'm not trying to put you on the spot specifically, I just don't see how anyone can see the last half of the season and think "yeah, Gylfi has just had a hard year". He's ALWAYS been like that. Yet Carlo picked him for almost every match and he under performed, as usual, in almost every match. It just makes no sense how someone can watch what he does on a pitch and agree that he merits his place.

I'm not even talking about today's match as I watched about 3 minutes of it before I decided it wasn't worth ruining my Satruday. 2 goals and an assist is a good return. He had a good match too after the restart. I have no problem saying when someone has done well. With Sigurdsson it's the massive exception instead of the norm tho.

Sorry, don’t rate your football opinion, so don’t care.

Hes played under 5/6 managers in three seasons, the first he was shunted out to the flank and we had no centre forward, the second and his best he was one of our most important players getting a run in his natural position, the third he was asked to play 6, with no central midfielders fit at the club, he’s neither a 6 or 8, but he showed up at least.

The club/squad has been basket case since he’s been here and hasn’t provided him with the platform to get the best out of him bar 18/19.
Where he played about 75% of the time for Swansea. This whole "he was played out of position" thing has been debunked so many times. The guy only does "well" when he's played as a striker. And even then he's generally pretty poor but did contribute with some goals.

...I don’t think he particularly went hiding, Neil, but there were times when his basic distribution was worst than careless. i actually found that very surprising. He’s much better than he showed last season but I’m not sure he’ll start many games if Ancelotti goes 4-4-2.

Nah. He got found at at a higher level where just hiding from the ball for 90mins only to be active just outside the box doesn't cut it.

By admitting he's played a number of positions and been half decent in one for a short period of time over his 3 seasons, says he's not going to prove anything.

It's almost like still hoping that Besic, Bolasie, and Sandro have got something to offer.

He played mostly 10 for Swansea, or in the three behind, I remember a few games he played a false 9. I don’t think he player CM, unless like us it was to fill in. He played in front of Ki, Britton, Fer, Allen etc.

I think its less work ethic more shying away and not wanting the ball. Senior players like him should not be leaving it to younger players to step up and receive the ball in tight situations.

To be fair, he had no choice. Gomes, Delph and Gbamin are injury proned. Then you have Davies and Siggy with the already departed MS. Bani is just not a solution. He played one game for Wigan and can’t get into the side.

Nah, wouldn’t be on board with you at all mate, it’s simple for me he’s a 10, I think if he plays a full season there with good squad balance he will get double digits, goals or assists depending.

We have 1 season sample of that and it proved the case.

What lads in here are trying to say for my money is a kin of Lucas Dinge is a bad player because we didn’t have a forward and he was asked to fill in there and didn’t perform well.

I think if you have noticed that it’s fair mate, I personally haven’t. I think he’s always put himself out there to be criticised he’s never shied away from doing a job, despite an injury crisis, I can think of players who are on bigger money with less of a contribution, who just didn’t show, Bernard and Delph for two.

As I say mate, I don’t think he’s a CM. I’m not 100% sure we will go 4-4-2 if I’m honest mate.
