2019/20 Gylfi Sigurdsson

Not coincidental at all that we’ve needed ‘saving’ ever since he joined the club? 40 mill record signing indeed.

Or...

But yeah, a team devoid of creativity/goals - lets bin off the lad most likely to score.

What is it with Evertonians festering on the main fella?! Lukaku took it in pelters, as did Fellaini before him.

Woe betide any player Everton sign for a decent fee.

Everton's issue isn't Gylfi Sigurdsson.

Nice covering there.

So

Play well/score - doesn't matter.
Play average - see poorly
Play poorly - terrible, see, waste of space.

Gotcha.

the issue is, he will play 1 game well in about 7 or 8 then people will forgot about his other 6/7 of absolute horse poo

for 40m or whatever he cost he should be having good games 9 times out of 10.

I actually do think he is a good player, he just doesn't get involved enough, and certainly hides when it's not going our way

he's never a second striker either

He's the only attacker who's been here all that time though isn't he? So it's not really a particularly surprising stat.

They'll forget?!?!

You having a laugh mate - check out the replies count vs others to his thread on GOT.

That's the crux of the issue for you, and most.

Same as it was with Fellaini and Lukaku.

He didn't pay the fee.

Swansea didn't want to sell him, even when they eventually relented. They knew he kept them in the league.

I actually do think he is a good player, he just doesn't get involved enough, and certainly hides when it's not going our way

He covered more ground on average than any player last season for Everton, and for Swansea covered more ground than any other player in the league.

No way does he hide.

he's never a second striker either

In my opinion, as I've said for a very long time now - Everton's issue is a team that has no centre midfield which makes us very predictable. Sigurdsson's below par season is a symptom of it.

Two holding midfielders who offer nothing going forward - through instruction. Everything is to the wings. They never pass a ball centrally and forward, never mind get close enough within shooting sight of goal.

Every attack then down the wings, Sigurdsson deployed too far forward in an almost Tim Cahill role, floundering around as a second striker away from any other centre midfielder

Everton are setup well to counter, but we play it every game and it'll fail against teams setup against us, rather than playing their own game, particularly against sides who'll not come at us.

No centre midfielder will do well in Silva's setup this season.

Even Andre Gomes has been well off it - it's not a coincidence he put in the worst game of his life in that Villa game. They tactically took the piss.

No understanding with Schneiderlin as per his national coach.

EXACTLY THIS;

“He is very efficient, and he reads the game wonderfully. He is positioned correctly but the connection between him and Everton’s midfielders, Fabian Delph and Morgan Schneiderlin, is not good, and especially between him and Schneiderlin.”

As I've been crying on about for months - anyone with half a footballing brain should be able to see it.

The player itself isn't the problem for me, The formation makes him the problem because he's not doing his job properly because the teams a hot mess which isn't just down to him.
He's a hard worker but he can't be allowed that role off the striker anymore it's costing us big time.
Put him in the middle with Delph/Gbamin tell them to stay back at all costs and Gylfi can just spray passes make runs to the box from center midfield take long shots instead of this garbage false 9 CAM whatever they call it.

He’s the only attacker that has been here all that time and regularly starts. He has the whole team based around him and takes all’s et pieces and penalties. I’d be amazed if he wasn’t leading this stat.

People took a dislike to lukaku for his off field antics rather than his on field antics in my opinion, no one can deny he was unreal for us upfront, and most certainly our best striker in my lifetime anyway, fellaini I never knew people had an issue with?

he covers ground? so? so did steven naismith and DCL, it doesn't make them more involved in the game, he chases down but he doesn't get on the ball and make things happen enough, again a player who cost £40m regardless of if he paid the fee or not SHOULD be doing a lot more. he most definitely goes missing when we are relying on a bit of magic from nowhere

gomes was off pace against villa, but he was our best player against palace till he went off and was good against wolves ( he hasn't played vs Bournemouth or sheff utd ) so it's hardly the same

So is he positioned correctly or “deployed too far forward...floundering around”?

The Iceland coach is basically saying there’s nothing wrong with how we’re playing but the chemistry isn’t right between the players. You appear to be saying the exact opposite, but using his opinion as evidence that you’re right?

He's over scrutinised, consistently.

Because of his fee, and because he has it in him, fans look to him and it can feel wanting.

But, he provides the answer more than most. Who else do we look to when we need a big of magic from nowhere?!

When we're really turd/backs against the wall, I think he more than anyone else in this squad I can think of has looked to dig us out of it.

Some that spring to mind;

Hadjuk Split - we were certainly going out in Europe in a qualifier - real shocker, he slots from the half way line.

Away at Southampton in January, we were terrible. Losing 1-0. He does this out of nothing;

Both the above aren't remembered because we were so grim afterwards in the competition and we lost at Southampton. Even scoring at Anfield etc - when he does produce some magic, Everton have made sure it's not really one for the showreels...

To take him out of the team now, who would come in for him who will create more?!

I think he's good and no complaints. He just needs serious competition for his place, like trying Bernard or Iwobi there, so that he knows he has to keep pushing. ALso some teams require quicker passing and breaking from defence which I feel Bernard or Iwobi might provide. Do you think sometimes he's not the right player to unlock defences?
