People are right to laud Lampard for getting a club like Derby County to the Premier League play-off final. They’re also right to laud him for guiding Chelsea to a top 4 finish without being able to sign a single player due to their transfer embargo. He got them to the FA Cup final that season too.

BUT… has he got the requisite experience to arrest the seemingly terminal decline of a team that is literally losing every single week. Can he get arguably the worst squad in the league out of the bottom 5 when the likes of Newcastle and Norwich are now breathing down our necks and are spending a fortune in this transfer window? At this stage don’t we need a relegation specialist to do a rescue job? Someone like Big Sam but preferably not Big Sam. Let’s be honest: this is a very different job to Chelsea, albeit Chelsea had just sold their best player (Hazard) before Lampard had arrived and of course couldn’t sign anyone as I’ve already said.

Personally just think it needs a manager to give the players a positive direction, something new and fresh. Especially with the new backroom staff hes bringing in. He'll also get a body or two in before the window closes.

There's enough young players in the squad that'll respond to that enough to get us out of it. Again, 5 wins will be all that's needed.

Then next season is when he'll get his feet under the table.

I'm hoping it's going to be a different mentality for the club for him to work in. Gone is that "break top 4" and throw money at it with no strategy plan...it's about building now.

Really, do we have the worst squad in the league? Don't get me wrong, there's issues in the squad in terms of individuals and overall harmony.

However, I think there's more than enough quality in the squad to put a run of games together to get us to midtable, where in reality is where this squad belongs.

Never seen the attraction to Lampard.... After having Carlo, my expectations are too high.... Lampard being successful here just feels a fantasy to me, especially with the dross we have.

We’re not “arguably the worst squad in the league” though.

I mean I suppose technically we’re ARGUABLY the worst squad, in that you could technically argue it if you didn’t mind sounding pretty silly. But by that definition so are all the other 19.
