2024/25 Harrison Armstrong

At times* I tried to put.

Clearly they were the two stars but he wasn’t out of the conversation at times.

Genuinely think he’s the closest we produced to Rooney talent and ability wise just didn’t have the natural understanding of the game. Rooney was a footballing genius in fairness.

Agree re: Armstrong sticking around the club, if we had a capable squad he could be coming on with 25/30 to go and getting significant minutes.
Agree with you mate. That first season everyone had huge expectations for him and he lived up to them that season. People on here were comparing him to Ballack and Zidane at times. He obviously hasn't had the career to back it up but the talent was there.

Depending on what happens in terms of transfers in, and the injury which Timmy has, I would still consider sending him on loan for 6 months.

We have Doucoure, Gana, Mangala, Timmy, and Garner who can all operate in CM. We have Harrison, Ndiaye, McNeil and Lindstrom that can all operate at CAM. Now, some of those we all think are naff and want out of the squad but I don't think that happens until the summer. If the rumours are true and we are interested in bringing in Chukwuemeka/Neil and a RW like Nuamah then that leaves us with quite a lot of options for his position.

In the summer I can see Doucoure leaving and I would be very surprised if we take up any further option for Harrison/Mangala so he'll have a better chance to get into the side and could by that point have some decent senior minutes under his belt.

If we already know he's too good for the U-18s then a decision needs to be made to get him in the senior squad and play him now and then or to let him out on loan. Don't want him to stagnate.

Yes true about Dibling but 22 games in saints have got 6 points mate and are on schedule for the single worst season in premier league history for any team.

But hey they're developing a few young players whilst doing so who when they go down they will lose them all.

But can say right now if we simply play Armstrong ahead of Doucoure then yes the player may develop a bit faster but we will be worse as a team and it'll show in results as much as I don't like Doucoure - Armstrong isn't ready to be starting in the league yet.

Rooney was playing at his age because he was a generational talent, Barkley similarly was a prodigy who even with a huge setback with a broken leg was still mikes ahead of where Armstrong is at currently ability wise.

If he's good enough he will play but wanting him to be good enough right now to be playing is different to him being ready right now, it's why it's common place to loan out younger players, so the learning bumps happen at the cost of another team who doesn't have better available
100%When he first came into the team he had a presence and got on the ball a lot and dribbled a lot. I remember him pinging 60 yard left foot passes to Rom at Old Trafford with ease. Very few players can do that off both feet. Always seemed to play well against City and Liverpool too. They were genuinely worried by him.

Rooney, Roswell, Barkley, Eberell ??
Let's see how he shapes being an 'Armstrong' first, if Moyes can find a place for him...and most of all not a handy Square Peg for whatever deficit round hole du jour needs filling

A two footed player who could carry the ball, had brilliant touch and technique, could beat others easily with skill and could shoot with power and accuracy with both feet… he was an excellent prospect. Shame he missed a year of development with a broken leg, he could have been even better when he came through. Another shame he didn’t spend that year out going down the library

Barkley had/has all the footballing ability/physicality you could wish for... he just didn't have the footballing brain to go with it IMO.

Think he goes out on loan before the window shuts. He looks like he could be a first team player soon but doubt Moyes will be aching to throw him in.

Come on genius, what's wrong with what I said?

….the last thing you want to do with a highly promising 18yo at a crucial stage in his development is send him to a Manager who is solely concentrated on winning points. For a start, I doubt he’d see much game time, he won’t be given time to learn and make mistakes, his best interests will not be protected.

He lives local, he’s settled with his family, he’s under the coaching of PL personnel and Manager, he’s getting PL game time, he’s training every day with top flight professionals and international footballers. He’s being looked after in the best interest of Everton football club.

Are you not?
Nope, not a bar of it.
Early Barkley was all instinct and Instant reaction, (when it comes off you get that Newcastle goal) but back then, wouldn't know a percentage ball and thus when and when not to play it if it jumped up and bit him.
10yrs on and he's...finally... picked up a bit of nouse...just enough to function on and off the bench when required.

Edit; I'm done with Barkley, it's the Armstrong thread

Eggs hates loan moves even though all our best academy talents played out on loan.
Fair enough.

He's had 47 minutes of Prem football.

You've also created a scenario in your head regarding a loan.

If we want to do that then I will create one too. I think he'd see a lot of game time, given time to learn and help his team in winning points.

As Boyland pointed out in his article it seems like we are in limbo with him because he's too good for the U-18s but in his position in the squad we are still quite stacked. I don't see a problem in putting him out on loan until the rest of the season with a recall on it. Put conditions of play time and if he doesn't play then bring him back.

Also, we have a manager who is solely concentrated on winning points, hence why he hasn't played in either the Villa or Tottenham game.
