How is it O'Brien only played 26 minutes of PL football under Dyche then.
Is that on the long list of things Dyche got dramatically wrong.

There was generally nothing wrong with his defence though. I get the shouts of playing him ahead of Keane but O'Brien has played well at full back. Lets face it if Dyche plays a centre back at full back he would get slated for being too negative.

The attack was sacrificed for the defence. Thats why when Moyes took over we were not even anywhere near a goal per game(been erased within 4 games) Its why over a 10 year career as a manager his record is more games than goals. Thats a shocking stat btw.

His defences were not great on their own. He often camped the midfield in front of them. Something we found out to our cost when that idiot koeman spent 30m on Michael Keane. Keane look good at Burnley because Dyche hardly had his midfield or fullbacks cross the halfway line.

He wasn't allowed to play for the 1st team. He was loaned but only for the reserves if I remember right.

Not sure tbh mate, it was a weird loan where he wasn't allowed to play for the 1st team, but he could play for the reserves and yeah Moyes took a look at him but I think I remember Dier saying he had no intention of wanting to stay and wanted to go and fight for his place in Portugal.

….seems strange that he selected him at RB over Patterson who he also needed to evaluate.

As @Papa Shango says, it’s difficult to criticise defensive selection when it worked so well under Dyche. The irony is, Moyes said he thought O’Brien might provide more from an attacking perspective given Young is an ex-winger.

Playing O’Brien at RB would never had entered my consideration, he’s such a big old unit I’d have thought he’d struggle with mobility required but he’s been terrific. I’d praise Moyes for doing it rather than criticise Dyche for not doing it but he has got form for successfully playing CBs at full-back.
